The Week's Best News & Posts

  • Olof Björner (1942–2023)
    • Peter Stone Brown Archives: “I am very sad to share with you all that Olof passed away last night. He fell asleep quietly and peacefully. He was a good friend and, as you all know, a tireless chronicler of Dylan’s career. He was, though, much more than his appreciation for Dylan’s music. His generosity in sharing his work with others for decades speaks to his love of humanity, which always shown through in his smile.”
  • Bob Dylan Center plans gala weekend for ‘Medicine’ release (Tulsa World)
    • “The weekend will also feature a number of live performances by artists such as Sarah Lee Guthrie, daughter of folk music legend Arlo Guthrie, who will perform with her trio Oct. 20 at the Woody Guthrie Theater; and Hurrah for the Riff Raff, with opening act Bedouine, performing Oct. 21 at the Cain’s Ballroom.”
  • Tales from Oxnard’s Teatro: Shooting pool with Bob Dylan (VC Star)

On his way through downtown Oxnard, he passed an old movie theater with “Teatro” on the marquee and a “for lease” sign in the window.”
  • Meet the Design Firm Behind Bob Dylan’s New Louisville Whiskey Bar (Louisville Business Journal)
      • “I think if we keep on with the projects at this caliber, I don’t really have a choice,” the firm’s owner said of the potential for growing its staff.”
  • Rock Music’s Most Important Day (VRYE)
    • “And all this because on that fateful day in the summer of 1965 Dylan asked Robertson to be in his backing band for his first full-on electric tour. At the time, Robertson’s group the Hawks had just broken up.”

Releases and Reviews

  • Time Out Of Mind – 2LP Gold Vinyl ‘National Album Day’ Reissue
  • Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert

    • (Nov 10) “Last November in London, Cat Power took the stage at Royal Albert Hall and delivered a song-for-song recreation of one of the most fabled and transformative live sets of all time. Held at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in May 1966—but long known as the “Royal Albert Hall Concert” due to a mislabeled bootleg—the original performance saw Bob Dylan switching from acoustic to electric midway through the show, drawing ire from an audience of folk purists and forever altering the course of rock-and-roll. In her own rendition of that historic night, the artist otherwise known as Chan Marshall inhabited each song with equal parts conviction and grace and a palpable sense of protectiveness, ultimately transposing the anarchic tension of Dylan’s set with a warm and luminous joy.”
