This page contains items that aren't eligible for the main Searching For A Gem or International Stereo Releases lists because Bob does not personally perform on them, but are nevertheless of interest to Dylan collectors. There's no specific qualification for inclusion other than I have the item or it's been notified to me by a contributor as being worthy of inclusion. This is not intended to be a comprehensive section on Dylan Covers. The late Dave Plentus' excellent Dylan Cover Albums site is now kept alive on Expecting Rain by Karl-Erik Anderson here and these pages are not intended to match or replace it. This page includes notable cover albums by single artists or bands contributed by Dylan collectors. The other Honourable Mentions pages are listed below.
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

Johnny Cash - "It Ain't Me, Babe" - promo 7" mono single: Columbia 4-43145 (USA), Dec 1964:
Columbia 4-43145 (USA) - front scan by Manuel García Jara (rear is plain white) |
A rumoured alternate version of It Ain't Me, Babe is listed in 1964, but the existence of this Dylan item is disputed, and I have as yet seen no evidence of it. Manuel García Jara thinks that this is a mistake, and actually refers to the Johnny Cash cover of It Ain't Me, Babe, originally released by Columbia in USA in Sep 1964 with Time And Time Again as the B-side. There was a promotional release with red vinyl and red text and a commercial release with regular orange labels - these two singles had generic Columbia sleeves. |
Columbia 4-43145 (USA) - A-side scan by Manuel García Jara (B-side is the same) |
|
Columbia 4-43145 (USA) - comemrcial release A-side, picture from www.45cat.com |
However, in Dec 1964 a new version on red vinyl with black text was released with Cash’s Dylan cover on both sides; this new single usually has a generic sleeve but only a limited quantity of copies have the white Columbia sleeve shown with promo text explaining the reason why this single was released again.

Trini Lopez - "The Folk Album" - mono vinyl LP release: Reprise R-6147 (USA)/stereo vinyl LP release: Reprise RS 6147 (USA), 1965:
Reprise RS 6147 (USA, stereo) - front scan by Manuel García Jara |
This 1965 album by Trini Lopez includes
covers of two Dylan songs - Blowin' In The Wind and Don't Think Twice, It's
All Right. It was the second in a quartet of similarly-titled Trini Lopez albums, the others
being The Latin Album (RS 6125), The Love Album (RS 6165) and
The Rhythm & Blues Album (RS 6171). The stereo "Little LP" on the
right was intended for jukeboxes and has six songs from the album. Don't
Think Twice, It's All Right is
track 2 on the B-side, but Blowin' In The Wind is missing. For 7"
stereo/mono singles and EPs with covers of Blowin' In The Wind see
here. The album was released on CD by the Wounded Bird US reissue label in 2007. It is now out of print, although it can be downloaded from www.amazon.com. Thanks to Manuel García Jara for information and scan. |

This strange album from The Four Seasons had Burt Bacharach/Hal David covers on Side 1, and Bob Dylan covers on Side 2. The Dylan songs are Queen Jane Approximately; Mr. Tambourine Man; Like A Rolling Stone; Don't Think Twice, It's All Right; All I Really Want To Do and Blowin' In The Wind. Don't Think Twice, It's All Right was released in Oct 1965 as just "Don't Think Twice" as the A-side of a mono 7" single by the anonymous group "The Wonder Who?" - Philips 40324 (USA)/Philips BF 1440 (UK)! |

The album was first released in Nov 1965 with the book-style design, and then re-released in 1970 with the same catalogue number but with completely new artwork. The record labels are the same apart from the extra bottom text on the first release – “PHILIPS RECORDS – VENDOR: MERCURY RECORDS CORPORATION”. Both records have the same stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - PHS 600 193 A, Side 2 - PHS 600 193 B. The 1988 Rhino US CD reissue uses the reissue US Philips artwork.

GNP Crescendo 2020 (USA, mono) - LP picture from www.musicstack.com |
Billy Lee Riley was a US rockabilly singer who had important hits on Sun Records in the 1950s such as Red Hot. In 1966 he recorded the album Funk Harmonica (GNP Crescendo 2020) including covers of recent hits, mostly "folk-rock" tracks, including Dylan covers Blowin' In The Wind, Mr. Tambourine Man and Like A Rolling Stone. In Mexico two rare EPs from the album were released with an important change in the title, Folk-Rock Harmonica instead of Funk Harmonica. The first EP is the rarer, and includes his covers of Like A Rolling Stone (track 1 on the A-side) translated as "Como piedra que rueda" (On CBS releases it was translated as "Como una piedra que rueda") and Mr. Tambourine Man (track 1 on the B-side) translated as "El hombre de la pandereta" (the usual translation in Latin American countries is "Mr. Tamborín"). The second EP includes Blowin' In The Wind (track 1 on the B-side) with its usual Spanish translation of "La Respuesta Está En El Viento [The Answer Is In The Wind]", so is also listed in Blowin' In The Wind Covers 1966-69. Track 1 on the A-side of Vol. II is "La Casa Del Sol Nasciente [House Of The Risin' Sun]", recorded by Bob on his first album. The sleeves are the usual Mexican unfolded inserts. The rear sleeve of each EP has information about the different types of harmonica used on each track! | |||

Parlophone PCS 7078 (UK stereo)/PMC 7078 (UK mono) - LP front scan from www.discogs.com |
The Hollies' decision to make this album
of twelve Dylan covers including their version of Blowin' In The Wind was the reason Graham Nash left
the band! Graham wanted to perform his own material including Marrakesh
Express, which he released with Crosby, Stills and Nash. The album was
released in the USA as
Words And Music By Bob Dylan with a
different front design using the same photo. The album was reissued on CD with the UK title in 1993. It contains two bonus tracks: an alternate take of Blowin' In The Wind and a live version of The Times They Are A-Changin'. Both the obi and the rear insert of the Toshiba-EMI Japanese release are dated "93.3.24" (24 Mar 1993). |

Like many Spanish Dylan CBS releases, the sleeve was printed by Offset ALG S.A., Madrid. The 1972 Joan Baez A&M single above was made by Hispavox for A&M Records. For Chronicles, the 1973 A&M album by Booker T and Priscilla Jones with Bob playing harmonica on their cover of Donna Weiss' The Crippled Crow, as well as a 1973 A&M Spanish 7" stereo single with The Crippled Crow on the B-side, see 1973.
