This page contains video items that aren't eligible for the main Searching For A Gem VHS & DVD lists because Bob does not personally perform on them, but are nevertheless of interest to Dylan collectors. There's no specific qualification for inclusion other than I have the item or it's been notified to me by a contributor as having a noteworthy Dylan connection. All candidates for inclusion will be assessed on their merits! The other Honourable Mentions pages are listed below.

"Tales From A Golden Age: Bob Dylan 1941-1966" - DVD documentary, Chrome Dreams DVD-CVIS 366 (UK), 26 Oct 2004/Showtime DSD-38 (Brazil), 2007:

Chrome Dreams DVD-CVIS 366 (UK) - picture from "Isis" web-site
About this release, Derek Barker says: "It's another Chrome Dreams release, in association with Isis Magazine as well as being released by Chrome Dreams/Isis , I worked as the researcher for the project, which hopefully is part one of a three part series that will cover Dylan from birth to today. There is no Dylan music, it is purely an historical documentary film. We interviewed two or three people that have not been seen or heard before as well as few of the usual suspects. There are 13 interviewees in all, and that includes Clinton, C.P Lee and me."

This unauthorised documentary will be sold in the UK and the USA.

Thanks to Bob Stacey for finding this item. I'll add more information when I've had time to watch it! Thanks to Alexandre Froemming for the Brazilian release.

Highway 61 Entertainment BD0503CD
(USA) - soundtrack CD scan by Jean-Pol Hiernaux

Thanks to Jack from Canada for scans and details of the footage (I assume the Dylan clips are included without sound for copyright reasons, so I haven't allocated them an R-number):

  1. Brief on-stage clip from Tour 74 (no sound)
  2. Clips from "The World Of John Hammond" 1975 TV Special (no sound)
  3. Various on-stage clips from the Rolling Thunder Revue tour (not from "Renaldo and Clara") (no sound)
  4. On stage clips of the 1978 World Tour (no sound)
  5. On stage clips from the 1979-81 tours, including footage shot by Howard Alk in Avignon (July 25, 1981) (no sound)
  6. Interview with Pat Crosby (image and sound) shot 15 May 1980 in Pittsburgh, PA, for KDKA-TV and broadcast that same day.

Thanks to Jean-Pol Hiernaux for scans of the soundtrack CD, who adds: Among the "Special Features" bonus, there is a nice "Journey to Hibbing" by Joel Gilbert (11:16) and a Photo Gallery 1975-1981, with a lot of nice pictures with Bob. There is also a CD with the soundtrack, Highway 61 Entertainment BD0503CD: 21 tunes by Joel Gilbert and his band Highway 61 Revisited, Scarlet Rivera, Bruce Langhorne, Rob Stoner and Regina McCrary. There are no covers of Bob songs, but covers of traditional or standard songs, plus six original instrumental Rob Stoner compositions, which evoke the "Bob musical world" from the two periods.

"Factory Girl" - US feature film released 2 Feb 2007; DVD release:  Paramount Home Entertainment (catalogue number?) (USA), 17 Jul 2007; Paramount Home Entertainment PHE 9353 (UK), 10 Sep 2007:

Paramount Home Entertainment PHE 9353 (UK) - front of DVD insert (my copy)
The UK press reported in Nov 2004 that Sienna Miller was set to star in a biography of Edie Sedgwick to be called "Factory Girl", due then for release in mid-2005. The film, to be directed by George Hickenlooper, reportedly "revolves around an unconventional love triangle of sorts that developed between Edie Sedgwick, Bob Dylan and Andy Warhol". Bob Dylan's lawyers made moves to stop the project, and the Bob Dylan character (played by Hayden Christensen of "Star Wars" fame) was renamed Billy Quinn (as of course in Quinn The Eskimo and also the lawyer character played by Richard Gere in the musical "Chicago"). The film was eventually released in 2007, with no mention of Bob by name or use of Bob's music. The fact that the character played by Hayden Christensen wore a corduroy cap and played a guitar and a harmonica in a holder was purely coincidence...

Thanks to Tim Dunn for information that this DVD documentary about legendary folk music enthusiast Izzy Young (Israel Goodman Young) includes a cover of Talkin' Folklore Center by Eric Bibb. His Folklore Center on MacDougal Street, Greenwich Village, New York, opened in 1958 and playing there launched the careers of artists such as Dave van Ronk, Peter Paul & Mary, John Sebastian, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris and Tim Buckley. Most famous of his protégés was of course Bob, whose first New York solo concert Izzy organised at Carnegie Chapter Hall on 4 Nov 1961. Sadly Izzy Young died in Sweden in Feb 2019 at the age of 90, after living there for many years. This documentary was apparently first shown on Swedish TV in 1989, but a DVD release did not occur till 2015.

Thanks to Jack from Canada for further information and scans.
