This page contains items that aren't eligible for the main Searching For A Gem or International Stereo Releases lists because Bob does not personally perform on them, but are nevertheless of interest to Dylan collectors. There's no specific qualification for inclusion other than I have the item or it's been notified to me by a contributor as having a noteworthy Dylan connection. All candidates for inclusion will be assessed on their merits! This page includes songs by other artists that have been covered by Bob or are said to have influenced Bob, including all the songs he's played on his Theme Time Radio Hour programmes. Jimmie Rodgers - "My Rough And Rowdy Ways" - mono vinyl album releases: RCA RD-27203 (UK)/RCA Victor LPJM-2112 (USA), 1960:
RCA RD-27203 (UK) - front photocopy by Paul Shenton |
This album and its title track inspired the name of Bob's
2020 album Rough And Rowdy Ways. According to the liner notes the
song, co-written with his sister-in-law Elsie McWilliams, was inspired by
his time working as a brakeman on the railroad. It was first released as the
B-side of a 78rpm Victor single in 1929. Unusually for a UK album, there are only 12 songs compared with the US album's 16 songs (the last four songs on Side 2 of the US album are missing from the UK album). The rear sleeves use the same design but the front sleeves are completely different. Thanks to Paul Shenton for information and pictures. |

Rockduster Records (USA) - front in jewel case (my copy) |
This is an album of traditional songs that were performed by Bob in the 1990s, plus a Bob talking song homage/pastiche Talkin’ Solo Acoustic Coffee House Massacre Blues! Long Time Gone is the only actual Dylan cover. Rich is from Greensboro, North Carolina, and I occasionally used to visit a facility there owned by the company that I worked for. A friend of mine from the plant went to his house and bought this CD directly from Rich for $13. Rich Lerner has also recorded an album of Dylan covers with his band The Groove, see Honourable Mentions - Covers (Misc). Thanks to Jack from Canada for information and scan. |
