This page contains items that aren't eligible for the main Searching For A Gem or International Stereo Releases lists because Bob does not personally perform on them, but are nevertheless of interest to Dylan collectors. There's no specific qualification for inclusion other than I have the item or it's been notified to me by a contributor as being worthy of inclusion. This is not intended to be a comprehensive section on Dylan Covers. The late Dave Plentus' excellent Dylan Cover Albums site is now kept alive on Expecting Rain by Karl-Erik Anderson here and these pages are not intended to match or replace it. This page includes notable foreign language cover albums contributed by Dylan collectors. Hugues Aufray was one of the first artists to translate multiple Bob Dylan songs into a language other than English. In February 1964 an EP (Barclay, 70.618) included "N'y Pense Plus, Tout Est Bien" [Don't Think Twice, It's All Right]. There was also a single coupling this track with "Quatre Vents" [Four Strong Winds]. The second EP shown is from 1965 and contains "L'Homme Orchestre" [Mr. Tambourine Man]. Ronald Born has a test pressing of the EP dated "30 Sep 1965". This was also released as a single, Barclay 60617.

The next two EPs are from his 1965 album Aufray Chante Dylan and include:

Barclay 70.938 M - Cauchemar Psychomotor [Motorpsycho Nitemare]; Oxford Town; La Fille Du Nord [Girl Of The North Country]; Ce Que Je Veux Surtout [All I Really Want To Do].

Barclay 70.939 M - Le Jour Ou Le Bateau Viendra [When The Ship Comes In]; Les Temps Changent [The Times They Are A-Changin']; Dieu Est A Nos Cotes [With God On Our Side]; Corrina, Corrina.

The "Aufray Chante Dylan" EPs were also released in Portugal in 1966 (Barclay BEP 700 119/700 120). The 1966 Spanish EP (Barclay SBGE 83 193) is a compilation - it contains "La Fille Du Nord" and "Ce Que Je Veux Surtout" from the first EP together with "Le Jour Ou Le Bateau Viendra" and "Corrina, Corrina" from the second EP.

Also shown is a 1965 Warner Bros. songbook. Hugues Aufray also wrote the introduction for the catalogue of the Amadeo France album series "Original Folk Song Collection" included with Les Rois Du Folk Song [Kings Of Folk Song], the French release of the Vanguard album Newport Broadside (Topical Songs), see 1964.

Wolfgang Ambros - "Wie In Schlaf [As If Asleep]" - LP release: Bellaphon BLPS 3333 (West Germany), 1978; re-released as Bellaphon 34627 (West Germany), late 1978/early 1979; Bellaphon 270-01-028 (West Germany), mid-1980s; Bellaphon 9665217 (Germany), 2014; gold CD release: Bellaphon LECD 14/290-01-030 (Germany), 1993:

LP releases, 1978-2014:

Bellaphon BLPS 3333 (West Germany) - front scan by Gerd Rundel (1978 release - "Bob Dylan" printed in colour, "W. Ambros" embossed)
This interpretation of ten Dylan songs translated into German (actually Viennese Austrian-German dialect) by Wolfgang Ambros who is an Austrian singer-songwriter. He is one of the most important contemporary Austrian musicians and is considered to be one of the founders of Austropop.

The first release is from 1978 and there is an interesting story about the front design, which has coloured printed "Bob Dylan" lettering and "W. Ambros" embossed on the white sleeve. As far as Gerd knows this highlighted "Bob Dylan" front design version was for sale only for a short period, and then because of legal reasons the front cover was changed (Hanns Peter Bushoff thinks this was because CBS Germany thought it could have been mistaken for an album by Bob himself).

Bellaphon 270-01-028 (West Germany) - front scan by Gerd Rundel (mid-1980s release - "Bob Dylan" embossed, "W. Ambros" printed in colour)

Bellaphon 270-01-028 (West Germany) - Side 2 scan by Gerd Rundel (mid-1980s release)

In late 1978 or early 1979 the LP was reissued with a different catalogue number (Bellaphon 34627) and a new front design with "Bob Dylan" embossed and "W. Ambros" printed in colour! In the mid-1980s there was another reissue with a third catalogue number (Bellaphon 270-01-028), shown above. In 2014 Bellaphon released a "remastered deluxe edition" with a gatefold sleeve (Bellaphon 9665217). All these releases use the revised sleeve.

Bellaphon LECD 14 (Germany) - inside pages of front insert booklet, scan by Gerd Rundel

Bellaphon 290-01-030 (Germany) - gold CD scan by Gerd Rundel

This "Limited 24 Karat Gold Disc Edition" has Bellaphon "LECD 14" on the front and rear inserts but "290-01-030" on the gold CD. The front insert is an eight-page booklet with the translated song lyrics in Viennese Austrian-German dialect. What look like holes punched through the front and rear inserts are actually part of the artwork, representing cigarette burns, also seen on the LP artwork! The rear insert is dated "1993" but the gold CD has a copyright date of "1988" and is still listed as having been made in West Germany.
