This page contains promotional and commercial releases of mono 7" singles and EPs with Dylan album tracks for 1966-68. Mono LPs have their own pages, see Mono Album Releases. All Bob's original mono albums from Bob Dylan to John Wesley Harding were released on CD as The Original Mono Recordings in Oct 2010.
For 1966-67 Dylan mono 7" singles and EPs with rarities see the yearly pages in Part 1 (there are no rarities for 1968). For illustrations of all the generic 7" single sleeves used by Bob's record companies from the 1960s onwards, see the 7" Single Sleeves page. (A single has much less value to a collector if it doesn't have its correct original sleeve.)
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

CBS EP 6265 (France) - front with languette, scan by Hans Seegers |
Highway 61 Revisited on the A-side of this
EP is a rarity, a unique 2:32 edit, so full details are
here. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scan. |
"With God On Our Side"/"Motorpsycho Nitemare" - 7" mono EP, CBS EP 6266 (France), 1966:
In a unique release exclusive to France, With God On Our Side from The Times They Are A -Changin' is cut into two with Part 1 (5:21) on the A-side, and Part 2 (1:43) on the B-side. Because this is a rarity, full details are in 1966. |
"Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?"/"Highway 61
Revisited" - promo and commercial 7" mono singles, Columbia 4-43477 (USA/Canada), Jan 1966:
For an early version of Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?
released by mistake in the USA, see 1965. Because the
mono version of Highway 61 Revisited used to be a rarity (R-0488), full details
of all these
singles are still listed in 1966. For a Portuguese
mono EP with Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? which doesn't include
the former R-0488, see below.
The B-side, Highway 61 Revisited, is the mono album version (3:20), slightly shorter than the stereo album version (3:28). This was a rarity (R-0488), but is now included on the mono release of Highway 61 Revisited as part of the 9CD set The Original Mono Recordings in Oct 2010. This single was re-released in Nov 2011 in a boxed set of four 7" mono vinyl singles. The sleeve used the CBS Denmark front design, see below, while the labels had a similar design to that of the CDs in the 9CD mono set with a "365 SOUND"/MONO/arrows logo.
Thanks to Hans Seegers, Augie Krater and Renaud Depierreux for information and scans
"Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?"/"Highway 61 Revisited" - 7" mono promo and commercial singles, CBS 201900 (UK), Jan 1966:
R-0488 is included on the mono release of Highway 61 Revisited as part of the 9CD set The Original Mono Recordings in Oct 2010, so is no longer a rarity. Full details of these singles are still in 1966.
The promo UK single was available with a push-out centre only. The commercial UK single was available with a push-out centre and a solid centre. As stated above, the B-side R-0488 is included on the mono release of Highway 61 Revisited as part of the 9CD set The Original Mono Recordings in Oct 2010, so is no longer a rarity.
Some copies of the UK single are reported to have had a picture sleeve, but this may well have been one of two "generic" Highway 61 Revisited sleeves sold in 1965 - for illustrations of these generic sleeves provided by Hans Seegers see 7" Singles Sleeves. Other European releases had picture sleeves as shown below.
Thanks to Arie de Reus, Hans Seegers and Manuel García Jara for information and scans.

Various Artists - "Philco Invites You To A Disc-A Go-Go Vol. 1"-
7" mono singles boxed set, Columbia
Special Products CSP 120-1302 (USA), Jan 1966:
This box containing five current Columbia 7" singles has the same title
as CSP 120-1325 listed below. Manuel García Jara points out that the single
selection in these boxes was completely random, so there is no point in buying
one unless you know it contains a Dylan single!
Columbia Special Products CSP 120-1302 (USA) - front of box scan by Hans Seegers (pink) |
This copy of the set contained Columbia 4-43477 (see above): Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? (now on Biograph and the new Ultimate/Essential compilations still in mono) c/w Highway 61 Revisited. The former R-0488 is included on the mono release of Highway 61 Revisited as part of the 9CD set The Original Mono Recordings in Oct 2010, so is no longer a rarity. Michael Grasberger has a copy of this box with the pink text but with a different Dylan single - One Of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later) c/w Queen Jane Approximately, see here. |
Sam Reed has a third variant of this set, with Rainy Day Women #12 & 35/Pledging My Time (not shown). The Rainy Day Women side of the label has a "Philco" ink stamp. The box has the pink lettering and spine like the other CSP 120-1302 copies. Two of the 7" discs are missing from the box, but it still contains Johnny Cash Everybody Loves a Nut/Austin Prison and Billy Joe Royal's Heart's Desire/Deep Inside Me. All of the singles are in plain grey "Columbia" sleeves.
Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scan.

Columbia 4-43683 with I Want You on the A-side and a live version of Just
Like Tom Thumb's Blues on the B-side. Because the B-side is a rarity, full
details of this set are
here. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scan. |
"One Of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later)"/"Queen Jane Approximately" - mono 7" singles & EPs, Columbia/CBS (various catalogue numbers) (Worldwide), Feb 1966 onwards:

to be a rarity, full details of all 7" singles/EPs containing this track are still listed
in
1966. Columbia US promo singles had an edited version of the A-side/title track
and are also listed in
1966. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans. |

CBS EP 6270/19439734387 (France) - detail of rear (2020 release)
Thanks to Franck Faugére for the record! The sleeve is identical to the 1966 sleeve, including the two folded-over flaps on the rear. There is a Sony Music sticker with a barcode and new catalogue number on the rear shrink-wrap. This EP was almost certainly made in Germany. The record labels now have "MADE IN THE EU" at the bottom instead of "MADE IN FRANCE" and the logo of the German copyright organisation "GEMA" has been added to the logo of the French copyright organisation "BIEM". The labels are a much paler orange than those of the 1966 releases.

jukebox and commercial mono singles, CBS JB 1900 (Italy)/CBS 1900 (Italy), Mar 1966:

single from then.
CBS 1900 (Italy) - front scan by Hans Seegers (commercial release) |
This Italian single has the same catalogue number as the Jan 1966 European singles above, but the A- and B-sides are flipped. The rear sleeve is a reproduction of an article by Ray Coleman from UK "Melody Maker " magazine, 9 Jan 1965, and had already been used for international mono singles in 1965, see Mono 7" Singles & EPs 1965. This single is also available as a white label jukebox release, CBS JB 1900. This came in a generic jukebox sleeve. Highway 61 Revisited, the former R-0488, is included on the mono release of Highway 61 Revisited as part of the 9CD set The Original Mono Recordings in Oct 2010, so is no longer a rarity. "Soplando En El Viento [Blowin' In The Wind]"/"Positivamente En La Cuarta Calle [Positively 4th Street]" - 7" mono promo and commercial singles, CBS 21.520 (Argentina/Uruguay), 1966:
CBS 21.520 (Argentina), 1966:
Sergio Mariano Romay's Argentinean promo copy was the property of a Uruguayan radio station called "C W 27 RADIO TABARÉ", based in the Uruguayan city of Salto. It has the stamp of the radio station (on both sides), an internal number "87" (on both sides), and a handwritten date: 21-4-66 [21 Apr 1966] on the B-side only.
Thanks also to Hans-Juergen Zollerg for pictures of an Argentinean copy with a "Festival CBS" insert with information on musical events in April 1966.
CBS 21.520 (Uruguay), 1966:
The Uruguayan single shown was released by Sondor S.A. on behalf of CBS, and also came in a unique green standard sleeve, see 7" Single Sleeves. Note the significant differences between the Argentinean and Uruguayan record labels!
The first Uruguayan single with the demo stamp was found on www.collectorsfrenzy.com by Sergio Mariano Romay and has this accompanying text: “Rare Uruguayan promotional 7” single that comes housed inside a special radio station customized paper sleeve. It looks like CBS/Sondor used to send these personalized variations to some radio stations. In this case, the name of radio station “CX8 – Radio Sarandí, Montevideo” can be read on paper sleeve bottom portion and there’s a kind of form on top portion intended to be filled in with information on the specific title, including artist, style, tracks length and the name of the DJ and the radio show it was addressed to, in this case the radio show named “Constelación” and the DJ's name was Carlos Martins, a well known local 1960s DJ. In addition, this peculiar copy features a Bob Dylan caricature printed on the sleeve… It was precisely at this old radio station’s vault the place where I found this weird artifact, is the first time I see in after many years on the record’s hunt. The commercial release of this single came housed in a picture sleeve that was imported from Argentina, that was a usual practice at the times, so I can only think that the record label probably decided not to use the expensive imported sleeves for promotion and used these cheaper customized sleeves instead, or it was that they just run out on them, but I couldn’t say for sure… The labels show a CBS/Sondor strip and promotional ink stamps just like the one on the sleeve itself. There’s also a sticker with date on the sleeve’s back that reads 1968.” |

Sergio adds that this must be a promotional single for the Dylan compilation El Trovador de Nuestro Tiempo – Bob Dylan – Poeta o Profeta? [The Troubadour Of Our Time – Bob Dylan – Poet Or Prophet?] mono vinyl LP, CBS 8.703 (Argentina/Uruguay), 1967, see International Mono Releases - Dylan-Only Compilations 1960s, which has the same caricature on the rear sleeve. The third promo copy found by Sergio was again the property of Uruguayan radio station CX8 "Radio Sarandí". It has a date of "5-7-66" on the A-side label (5 Jul 1966) - the single was released later in Uruguay than in Argentina.

The first variant in the blue sleeve has “(P) 1966” on the left side of the labels on both sides. The second A-side variant in the orange sleeve has “(P) 1965” on the A-side (in a much smaller typeface) and “(P) 1966” on the B-side as before. Ronald Born has a third variant in the orange sleeve which has "(P) 1965" on both sides.
Manuel García Jara has two further variants, both with "(P) 1966 on the labels. The first (1B) is similar to variant 1A but the details of the A-side are in slightly different positions. The B-side looks identical to the variant 1A B-side. The second (variant 4) is different from all the others. The song titles are in noticeably smaller text on both sides, and "Lado 1/2" is immediately below "33" and above "(P) 1966".

The four tracks on this EP are It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry; From A
Buick 6; Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? and Desolation Row.
This EP is very rare and features the only 7" vinyl appearance of Desolation
Row, which is edited to the first two verses and the end harmonica solo only. As this is a rarity, full details are in
1966. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scan. |
"I Want You" - 7" mono EP, CBS 5769 (France), Sep 1966:
This mono EP from Blonde On Blonde had I Want You and Obviously 5 Believers on the A-side and Just Like A Woman on the B-side. The French release has a "languette" (index tab) unique to France. For more information about languettes, see 1965.
The rear sleeve shows four other EPs by Bob Dylan released in France. On the second rear sleeve variant the third and fourth EPs are reversed!
I Want You is 3:01, so is not the 2:54 slight edit R-0322 (see 1966). Just Like A Woman is 4:52, so is not the 4:46 slight edit R-0323 (again, see 1966). This EP was released in West Germany under the title of Great New Sounds Vol. 1, see below.
Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.
"Great New Sounds Vol. 1" - 7" mono EP, CBS 5769 (West Germany), Sep 1966:
CBS 5769 (West Germany) - front scan by Hans Seegers |
This mono EP from Blonde On Blonde had I Want You and Obviously 5 Believers on the A-side and Just Like A Woman on the B-side. I Want You is 3:10, so is not the 2:54 slight edit R-0322 (see 1966). Just Like A Woman is 4:52, so is not the 4:46 slight edit R-0323 (again, see 1966). The rear sleeve has the same information about 34 EPs as the second release of West German EP CBS 6279 in 1965 Mono 7" Singles & EPs. The previous EP listed on the rear sleeve, CBS EP 6020, contains Positively 4th Street and is listed here. Manuel García Jara has a copy with the same sleeve where both sides of the record play correctly but have labels from an EP called "The Best Of Dave Brubeck", CBS EP 5759! The four tracks are taken from the 1966 Columbia/CBS compilation album Dave Brubeck's Greatest Hits. This EP was released in France under the title of I Want You with the same catalogue number and front sleeve, see above. Thanks to Simon Blokker for spotting that I Want You on the A-side is wrongly shown as "Want You". This mistake is not present on the French EP label. |

"Bob Dylan" - 7" mono EP, CBS 5769 (Portugal), 1967 (three variants):
CBS 5769 (Portugal) - detail of rear, scan by Hans Seegers (all variants
- "Marânus-Porto" at bottom right)
It was released three times with the same sleeve but slightly different record labels. Unlike later Portuguese EPs, all the sleeves were printed by Marânus-Porto. Only the first variant has "(P) 1967" on the labels at top left.
The first two record label variants have "FABRICADO EM PORTUGAL [MADE IN PORTUGAL]" at the bottom of the labels, but the third variant has "FABRICADO EM PORTUGAL FOR E.P.D. [MADE IN PORTUGAL BY E.P.D.]" at the bottom. "F.P.D." means "Fábrica Portuguesa de Discos" but the complete name of this company was actually "Fábrica Portuguesa de Discos da Rádio Triunfo", then known as just "F.P.D." and later as just "Rádio Triunfo".
Scans of the B-sides of the first and third variants required.
Thanks to Manuel García Jara for finding a copy of this 1967 Portuguese EP (variant 1) for auction on eBay with a fake sleeve and a fake promo sticker on the A-side, see Questionable Releases (Official Dylan Singles & EPs).
Thanks to Hans Seegers and Stefan Haras for information and scans.
"Mr. Tambourine Man" - 7" mono EP releases, CBS EP 6078 (UK), Oct 1966:
The tracks on this EP are the title track, Subterranean Homesick Blues and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, all from Bringing It All Back Home
There are two sleeve variants, one with a cut-away on the right-hand rear edge, and one without - both are shown.
The record has two label variants:

"Just Like A Woman" - single-sided 12" mono 78 rpm test pressing, CBS (no catalogue number) (India), 1966:
Scan by Hans Seegers |
This acetate has a white CBS "TEST PRESSING" label with
handwritten text, and "MADE IN INDIA" printed. It is extremely
rare. This is the full mono version of the song, and not either of the two
7" single edits R-0323 and R-0471 (see 1966). Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans. |

Bob's contribution was I Want You, the other tracks are by The Byrds,
Paul Revere and The Raiders plus Simon & Garfunkel. The rear sleeve has the same information about 34 EPs as the second release of West German EP CBS 6279 in 1965 Mono 7" Singles & EPs. Thanks to Hans Seegers and Ronald Born for information and scans. |

"Bob Dylan" - 7" mono EP, CBS 5779 (Portugal), 1966:
CBS 5779 (Portugal) - front scan by Hans Seegers (both releases) |
This mono EP had Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 (the 2:26 edit, R-0051M, see 1966) and Pledging My Time from the mono release of Blonde On Blonde on the A-side and Gates Of Eden from Bringing It All Back Home on the B-side. It was released twice with the same sleeve and slightly different labels as shown. Unlike later Portuguese EPs, all the sleeves were printed by Marânus-Porto. Keith Venturoni has a copy with first variant labels that plays the wrong tracks on the A-side, a 2:26 edit of the live version of Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues from Liverpool, 1966, B-side of the I Want You single (R-0054, 5:41, see 1966) plus I Want You. (2:26 is the length of the expected Rainy Day Women edit, R-0051M.) The B-side is Gates Of Eden as expected. Arie de Reus and Hans Seegers have copies like this as well, and as the edited live track is a rarity, details are also in 1966. |

This second West German mono EP from Blonde On Blonde had Leopard-Skin
Pill-Box Hat and Most Likely You'll Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine) on Side
1 and Visions Of Johanna on Side 2. As far as I know this is the only
7" appearance of Visions Of Johanna. The rear sleeve is exactly the same as West German EP 6020 with Positively 4th Street, see 1965 Mono 7" Singles & EPs. |

release - "Gráficos

CBS 5992 (Portugal) - detail of rear, scan by Hans Seegers (first
release - "Marânus-Porto" bottom right)
This mono EP had Highway 61 Revisited and She Belongs To Me on the A-side and Queen Jane Approximately on the B-side. It was released three times with two different sleeves and two record label designs. "Approximately" is misspelled as "Aproximately" on all the front and rear sleeves and all the B-side record labels. The first release sleeve was printed by Gráficos Reunidos-Porto and the bottom text line on the rear sleeve is centred. The record has orange CBS labels with "FABRICADO EM PORTUGAL" at the bottom.
François Guillez has two copies of what must be the first release with different promo stamps on the A-sides. The first has a gold stamp with "OFERTA [OFFER]", the second has a glue-damaged white stamp with "DISCO AMOSTRA INVENDÁVEL NOT FOR SALE SAMPLE RECORD".
The second release sleeve has a larger front photo and was printed by Marânus-Porto - the bottom text line on the rear sleeve is now right aligned. This is the opposite of the sleeves used for CBS 6283 below, and is unusual because sleeves printed by Gráficos Reunidos-Porto are later for all other Portuguese EPs! The record labels are the same as for the first release.
The third release came in the same sleeve as the second release, which is why Manuel dates this sleeve later. The record has darker orange CBS labels that now have "FABRICADO EM PORTUGAL POR F.P.D." at the bottom. "F.P.D." means "Fábrica Portuguesa de Discos" but the complete name of this company was actually "Fábrica Portuguesa de Discos da Rádio Triunfo", then known as just "F.P.D." and later as just "Rádio Triunfo". These were introduced in late 1968/early 1969.
Thanks to Hans Seegers, Manuel García Jara and François Guillez for information and scans.

This single was released in the UK and Sweden in 1965, see

release date as Feb 1966, but other sources give 31 Mar 1967. The 1967 Dutch single had orange
CBS labels with two variants, with the "B.I.E.M." and "COPYRIGHT CONTROL"
logos to the right of the centre hole switched round. The generic rear
sleeve showed nine contemporary Dutch CBS singles. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans. |

"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" - 7" mono EP
releases, CBS CE 4052
(Singapore), 1967:
This is one of only three EPs exclusive to Singapore and the only one in
mono! The other two are
stereo, and can be found on the International
7" Singles & EPs 1960s page.
The front sleeve is the picture used for the US Greatest Hits album, from which these four songs are taken.
A-side: Blowin' In The Wind; I Want You
B-side: Positively 4th Street; Subterranean Homesick Blues
Manuel García Jara's copy has a sticker on the rear sleeve from a record shop in "K,L." (Kuala Lumpur). This must have been imported into Malaysia from Singapore. The record labels of this copy have different text on either side of the centre hole than those of Stefan Haras' copy as shown. Manuel's copy has "Extended Play" and "45 RPM" on the left with "CE 4052 A/B" on the right; Stefan's copy has "CE 4052 A/B" on the left with "Extended Play" and "45 rpm" on the right. Manuel has other Singaporean EPs whose labels from before and after "CD 4052" prove that the "45 rpm" style of labels is later.

Bob Dylan/The Band - "Basement Tapes"
test pressings, Sunset Sound Recorders (USA); Feldmans/Dwarf
Music (UK), 1968:
The Emidisc UK test pressing is reputedly the source of the songs made available to UK groups such as Manfred Mann (The
Mighty Quinn), The Brian Auger Trinity/Julie Driscoll (This Wheel's On Fire),
Fairport Convention (Million Dollar Bash), etc. Apparently only about ten copies
were pressed. John Bauldie describes this 14 track test pressing in detail in his
article "The Basement Tapes" in "Record Collector", Jul
1987, but Hans Seegers disputes its legality. Hans says the songs were only
legally distributed on tape, which is confirmed by Dean Chambers, who has
information the songs were supplied to the music publishing company Feldmans in
London on a 7" reel by Albert Grossman. However, several test
pressings were indeed
made from this tape for private distribution, and these were the source of the
much poorer quality bootleg LPs that surfaced. The US test pressing from Arie de Reus
has exactly the same track list and appears official. ("Emidisc" was EMI's brand of
recording blank,
made at Hayes, Middlesex, which could be used by anyone
in the recording industry - exactly like a CD-R today - and the name does not mean this
recording was produced by
EMI itself. I
have other 1960s test pressings made using Emidisc blanks.)
Too Much Of Nothing - alternate take to the officially released track, recorded at Big Pink, West Saugerties, NY, Jul-Oct 1967 (R-0545, also listed in 1968)
Tears Of Rage - alternate take to the officially released track, recorded at Big Pink, West Saugerties, NY, Jul-Oct 1967 (R-0546, also listed in 1968)
R-0545 and R-0546 have now been released in Nov 2014 on The Bootleg Series Vol. 11 - The Basement Tapes Complete, so are no longer rarities.
All other tracks on this test pressing (shown on the label listings) were released on The Basement Tapes in 1975, on Biograph in 1985, or on The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3 in 1991, although these are mono versions.
The single Emidisc test pressing of "I Shall Be Released" is of the track from The Basement Tapes sessions eventually released on The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3 in 1991, not the later version released on Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. II in 1971. The title is misspelled "Realeased"! The three other single Emidisc test pressings are all of tracks from the UK LP and later released on The Basement Tapes in 1975. Gerd Rundel's copy of Please Mrs. Henry is blank on the reverse and comes in a grey card sleeve with blue edges.

This mono EP from John Wesley Harding had The Ballad Of Frankie Lee And Judas Priest on the A-side and Dear Landlord together with Down Along The Cove on the B-side.
Until late 1967, the sleeves of all these Portuguese EPs were printed by Marânus (a well-known book publisher in Porto). After this date, later Dylan EP sleeves and reissues of previous Dylan EPs were printed by Gráficos Reunidos, also in Porto. This EP was released twice with an identical front sleeve and record labels but with different rear sleeves - the second rear sleeve has the printer's logo centred instead of at bottom right and some differences in the text. Both rear sleeves have "Gravado em Inglaterra... [Recorded in England...]", which is completely wrong.

"I'll Be Your Baby Tonight"/"Drifter's Escape" - 7" mono single, CBS (catalogue number?) (UK), 22 Mar 1968:
In early March 1968, CBS UK announced that I'll Be Your Baby Tonight/Drifter's Escape would be released on 22 Mar 1968. The following week, it was announced that the release was cancelled, and I have no evidence that it was ever manufactured, let alone released. In fact there are no UK singles for 1968! Tom Willems gives the Dutch single release date as 15 Mar 1968. The tracks are shown as coming from the US mono version of John Wesley Harding, Columbia CL 2804. The Norwegian single has John Wesley Harding as the A-side, and was also distributed in Denmark and Sweden. There were two Norwegian rear sleeves, the first was plain white with only the text shown below (the printer's name) on the bottom edge, the second was completely plain with that text missing. The record labels do not have a country of origin like the Dutch and German labels, but have the logo of "NCB", the Scandinavian copyright organisation, to the right of the centre hole.
