This new page is one of a set listing the mono releases of regular Bob Dylan LPs that were
created from the regular stereo mix by combining the left and right channels, not specially engineered for mono. New Morning was the last Dylan album to be released in mono, in
Brazil only. The last US mono album was John Wesley Harding, and the last
European mono album was Nashville Skyline.
These LPs are eligible for inclusion on this site because the mono versions of
these Dylan songs are now unavailable on CD. (The first eight Dylan albums were
released on CD in mono as The Original Mono Recordings in 2010. For full
details of the set, see here.) Mono LPs with rare
tracks (e.g. mono versions with significant differences from the album tracks, such as
different mixes, edits or fades) are listed in the main chronological pages.

"New Morning" - mono vinyl LP, CBS 37706

The front photograph is by Columbia staff photographer Len Siegler, from Aug
or Sep 1970. The rear picture shows Bob with Victoria Spivey at Cue Recording Studio
New York, 2 Mar 1962, at the session that produced Three Kings And The Queen
(see 1964), and Kings And The Queen Vol. 2
(see 1972).

This album is a real find, as it's apparently the last Dylan mono LP ever to be released worldwide to my knowledge, and the album was released everywhere else in the world in stereo only. I assumed this was a stereo-to-mono reduction, although Keith Venturoni has a copy and thinks the record is actually stereo, not mono as stated on the sleeve. John Harju confirms that his copy is also stereo. Although I have received information about a Brazilian stereo release, CBS 137.706, Manuel García Jara has never seen one, and confirms his copy of CBS 37706 is definitely mono. Lars M. Banke has a Brazilian copy with "Stereo" stickers on the front and rear of the sleeve, but it is still in mono, see International Album Releases (Regular). |

The song titles and musician credits on the rear sleeve are translated into Portuguese. The song titles on the orange CBS record labels are in English only. The printing on the record labels is very poor quality, as if the printing press was running out of ink! Hans Seegers has a copy with a black promo stamp on Side 2 with "AMOSTRA INVENDÁVEL [SAMPLE NOT FOR SALE]".
Keith Venturoni has a copy of this mono album and thinks the record is actually stereo, not mono as stated on the sleeve. John Harju confirms that his mono copy is also stereo.
Surprisingly CBS Brazil never had its own pressing plant there until the late 1970s. All Dylan records until Blood On The Tracks were manufactured by RCA Electronica Ltda.
