This new page lists mono Various Artist compilation LPs that contain one or more Bob Dylan mono album tracks. 1970 is the latest date for an entry on this page so far. These albums do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, the interest value or scarcity of these items means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans of many of these elusive albums. Mono singles up to 1976 have their own pages, see the links above.
Manuel García Jara says: "Compilations made in the 1960s by Columbia or CBS with Dylan contributions can be classified into three types: folk (until the mid 1960s, e.g. All Star Hootenanny, Folk Jamboree, etc.) , pop albums (mid 1960s, e.g. Disco Teen '65, Today's Sounds, etc.) and psychedelic/underground music (late 1960s, e.g. The Rock Machine Turns You On, That's Underground, etc.) Psychedelic from 1967 was the first precedent of a long series of albums with this latter concept of music (Fill Your Head With Rock, Underground 70s etc.)."
This page is still incomplete - more information on mono compilation LPs with tracks by Bob Dylan is required.
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

alternate mono mix, longer than standard single release (4:12 as opposed
to 3:51) Larry Crum now informs me that he's checked the version of this track on the mono Disco Teen '66 compilation and it is the same as the mono 7" single and not R-00049M as listed previously. Similarly, Carsten Baumann informs me that he's checked the version on the stereo version of this 1966 album against the version now included on the remastered Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits (US release), and they are the same. This means the stereo version of the original single is now to be found on CD only on Biograph. Thanks also to David Goldsmith for confirmation. The stereo Disco Teen '66 version, R-0049, has ceased to be a rarity, and has been moved to the new Released Rarities page. The mono version of R-0049, R-0049M, remains a rarity and is still listed for 1965. The version on the 2010 release The Best Of The Original Mono Recordings is only 3:51, see The Best Of The Original Mono Recordings (2010). The Dylan track is on Side 1 of this compilation. There is also a cover of All I Really Want To Do by The Byrds on Side 1. Details of the US and Canadian stereo albums have now been moved to International Compilations: Various Artist Albums 1962-69. Various Artists - "Todo Es Yerk 66 [Everything Is The Jerk 66]" - mono promo vinyl compilation LP releases: CBS DCA 444 (Mexico)/CBS DCA 444 (Costa Rica)/CBS DCA 718 (Colombia), 1966:
CBS DCA 444 (Mexico):
"The Jerk" was a short-lived dance craze of the mid-1960s, and this compilation purports to be a collection of dance songs. "Yerk" is the phonetic transcription into Spanish of the English word "Jerk". The sleeve notes describe "Yerk" as a type of youth music with fast dances, modern rhythms and joyful lyrics! However, it is impossible to imagine being able to dance The Jerk to songs like The Sounds Of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel. Bob's even more unlikely contribution is Como Una Piedra Que Rueda [Like A Rolling Stone] from Highway 61 Revisited on Side 2.
The first album was made in Mexico and the copy shown is a promo, with a white sticker with the text "PROMOCION" and a small CBS logo glued over the printed logo on the front sleeve. The rear sleeve has the CBS logo again and sleeve notes in Spanish. The record labels are plain orange with a promo stamp on Side 2.

About Bob, the pompous liner notes by Nigel Hunter say: "Bob Dylan, of course, is the arch priest of modern folkdom. His songs, with their insidious melodies and their acidulous, astringent lyrics, probe deep into the nub of many matters nowadays, piercing the political smokescreens and ignoring the routine red herrings utilised to distract people's attention and awareness of what is actually happening or threatening to happen. Even when Bob adopts the form of the love song in preference to comment on the cataclysmic nuclear clouds overhanging the world or the ideological idiots riding hopefully on such perilous cumulus, he still strikes a ringing note of truth in the midst of the phantasmagoria of human relationships and feelings."

This was the first "sampler" album to be produced by CBS that was sold commercially in the UK as a general release (previous releases like the ones above had been limited editions). It was extremely successful, both in its own right and in terms of generating sales for the featured albums, all of which were newly released at the time. The front has a fabulous Victorian-style illustration of a "rock machine" by Milton Glaser! (For Milton Glaser's famous 1967 Dylan poster see Part 1). Bob's contribution is I'll Be Your Baby Tonight from John Wesley Harding. Other artists included are Leonard Cohen, Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds, Blood, Sweat and Tears featuring Al Kooper, and The Electric Flag featuring Mike Bloomfield.
Early copies of the album had a Milton Glaser poster with the front design and a double-sided insert with the same design on the front and details of fifteen contemporary CBS UK albums on the back. The generic CBS UK paper inner sleeve has a cut-out for the record label and has the theme "The Sound Of Entertainment". Current CBS albums are illustrated on the front, including the 1967 UK version of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, and all Bob's UK albums are listed on the back amongst albums from others. The record has orange CBS labels.
For UK and Dutch stereo releases of this album, CBS SPR 22, see International
Stereo Releases (Various Artist Compilations) -1960s. The UK stereo
record has a slightly different inner sleeve and labels with the
"STEREO" logo.
