"With God On Our Side"/"Motorpsycho Nitemare" - 7" mono EP, CBS EP 6266 (France), 1966:

CBS EP 6266 (France) - front (my copy, both variants)	In a unique release exclusive to France, With God On Our Side from The Times They Are A -Changin' is cut into two with Part 1 (5:21) on the A-side, and Part 2 (1:43) on the B-side together with Motorpsycho Nitemare from Another Side Of Bob Dylan. I previously listed this just as R-0048, but to achieve consistency in the list I have now split the R-number into two parts. This is a different split of the song from the one on the US Columbia promo single with R-0039A/B (see 1964), which was about 50-50. The rear sleeve shows the French Positively 4th Street EP (CBS 6210, see 1965) and three French Bob Dylan LPs - "Mister" Bob Dylan (actually The Times They Are A-Changin' - see Mono Album Releases), Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited.

Side A of Jim Siddy's copy has a minor difference from my Side A - the front bracket before "B. Dylan)" is missing at bottom left. This was probably the first release and subsequently corrected. The text below the centre hole is also slightly further to the left and higher than it is on my copy, see the detail scans.

This French mono test pressing contains two tracks from the 1963 Newport Folk Festival. Both sides are dated "1 MARS 1966". The sleeve is missing. R-0311M-4 With God On Our Side - with Joan Baez (6:05, mono version), recorded at the morning workshop, Newport Folk Festival, Newport, RI, 27 Jul 1963, , originally released on the Vanguard album Newport Broadside: Topical Songs At The Newport Folk Festival 1963, see 1964. The B-side is the 1965 song Farewell Angelina sung by Joan Baez (3:15).

This single again had no picture sleeve and came in a generic CBS sleeve. The record has orange CBS labels. The length of the A-side is not given, but I assume it is the 2:54 edit R-0322, so also see here. The length of the B-side is not given, but I assume it is the 2:26 edit R-0051M, so also see here. At this time CBS records were distributed from Athens by a company called "Music-box". This sleeve therefore has the words 'Distributed by "Music-box" Athens' overprinted. "Like A Rolling Stone" - 7" mono Emidisc test pressing made for CBS (no catalogue number) (UK), May 1966:

R-0890 Like A Rolling Stone - recorded live with The Hawks at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, England, 17 May 1966 (mono 8:20 version), from CBS UK acetate, 1966 This mono test pressing on an Emidisc recording blank with pink handwritten text plays at 33⅓ RPM and lasts 8:20. This is a mono occurrence of this performance with the famous "Judas!" shout and Bob's response, much bootlegged as from the "Royal Albert Hall" concert, and finally released in stereo as The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Live 1966 - The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert in 1998. Thanks to Gerd Rundel for finding this on eBay.

"Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" - 10" mono metal acetate, (no catalogue number) (UK), 22 Oct 1966:

This "alternate take" is timed at 4:56 (the album version from Blonde On Blonde is 11:17). The acetate is single-sided, and has a white label with the CBS logo, the address of CBS Recording Studios, 31-37 Whitfield Street, London, W1P 5RE, and typewritten text. It is dated "22 Oct '66". However, the CBS Studios in Whitfield Street were not opened until 1972, as confirmed by Derek Barker of "Isis" magazine, who visited there when they were brand new. Also, the modern postcode system was not in use in 1966, so the address would have just been "London W1". The acetate is therefore included in Questionable Releases and an R-number has not been assigned to the take. This acetate sold on eBay for $530! Caveat emptor... Thanks to Gerd Rundel for finding this on eBay and to Derek Barker for information.

R-0739 Desolation Row - edited version shortened to the first two verses and the end harmonica solo only. The cut is just before the words "Desolation Row" in the second verse.

The rear sleeve shows illustrations of three Mexican EPs; one is the well-known Dylan EP Like A Rolling Stone (see here) but also shown is another Dylan-related EP, the rare first release of Mr. Tamborín (Mr. Tambourine Man) by The Byrds (EPC 520, also illustrated above). Unlike the first and very common Dylan Like A Rolling Stone Mexican EP, which was reissued several times, other Mexican EPs are very rare and they were never reissued. However, Manuel García Jara's copy of this bizarrely titled EP, probably the rarest Dylan Mexican EP, has some slight differences from Hans' copy. The sleeve is made of cardboard, and the rear has two folded flaps like Hans' copy, but this copy has a fault - the flap at the top is visible but the flap at the bottom is on the inside! The A-side record label looks identical to that of Hans' copy, but the B-side record label has three differences:

1. The matrix numbers to the right of the centre hole are in a lower position
2. There is no gap at the bottom of the label between "-B. Dylan-" and the small CBS logo
3. The EP title, the tracklist, the translations into Spanish and the composer credits are identical, so identical that two printing errors are repeated - the bracket at the end of "(Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window)" is missing the top half, and the "I" of "DESOLACION" is faulty on both copies. For this reason, it is very surprising that track 1 on Hans' B-side label is "Can you Please crawl out your window" while on Manuel's copy it's "Can you please crawl out your window"!

Elektra EKL 308 (USA) - scan by Mike Silk (mono LP, 1966)	Paul Cable says in his book "Bob Dylan: His Unreleased Recordings" (Scorpion/Dark Star, 1978) that the "Roosevelt Gook" who plays piano on all six tracks on side 1 of this album is thought to be Bob. However, both Tom Rush in an Oct 1999 interview and Al Kooper in his book "Back Stage Passes & Backstabbing Bastards" (Billboard Books, New York, 1998) say that the person using this pseudonym was actually Al Kooper. Al Kooper is credited with playing electric guitar and celesta as well as co-production on this album (as illustrated below from the rear sleeve), and apparently wanted a separate fee rather than just a payment for "doubling up"! These tracks are therefore included here for completeness, but also in Red Herrings. (Bob names a companion as "Roosevelt Gook" during a phone-in on the Bob Fass Show, WBAI radio, New York, 26 Jan 1966, and Clinton Heylin says this was definitely Al Kooper.)

This album was finally released on CD by Collector's Choice in Sep 2001, and also as part of an Elektra Classics 2CD set in Germany in 2001. Other Tom Rush original Elektra LPs are also being released by Collector's Choice, see their website .

"Roosevelt Gook" also appears on the 1968 album The Live Adventures Of Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper, and was again thought to be Bob Dylan, also see Red Herrings.

Hans Seegers has these LPs in his possession with catalogue numbers CSM 523 (mono) and CSS 523 (stereo), John Z ("Zuke") has CSS 523 as part of a 5LP boxed set Zenith Salute To Stereo. In his article on Bob's appearances on compilation LPs in "The Bridge" Alan Hoaksey gives the catalogue numbers as CLP 523 (mono) and CSP 523 (stereo), however I have found no examples of these. The mono version of the LP obviously doesn't have this rarity. For a 1962 Zenith sponsored compilation album featuring Bob, Zenith Presents...
