This new page is one of several listing the mono releases of regular Bob Dylan LPs that were
created from the regular stereo mix by combining the left and right channels, not specially engineered for mono. New Morning was the last Dylan album to be released in mono, in
Brazil only. The last US mono album was John Wesley Harding, and the last
European mono album was Nashville Skyline.
These LPs are eligible for inclusion on this site because
the mono versions of these Dylan songs are now unavailable on CD. (The first
eight Dylan albums were released on CD in mono as The Original Mono
Recordings in 2010. For full details of the set, see
here.) Mono LPs with rare
tracks (e.g. mono versions with significant differences from the album tracks, such as
different mixes, edits or fades) are listed in the main chronological pages.

Nashville Skyline was released in a UK mono version, although it was not released in mono in the USA. However the UK release was not a true mono mix, but merely a combining of the stereo tracks (information from John Harju and Rob van Estrik). The sleeve shown was printed by the Upton Printing Group. Gerd Rundel has two copies, one has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - 63601 A1, Side 2 - 63601 B1, the second has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - 63601 A2, Side 2 - 63601 B1. Ronald Born has a copy where the record has a third variant of the matrix numbers: Side 1 - 63601 A2, Side 2 - 63601 B2. | ||||

Information from Luis Borrego and Manuel García Jara: "This was the second Dylan album ever released in Spain (after John Wesley Harding released in 1968 also in mono). It reached #5 in the Spanish charts on 18 Aug 1969. The sleeve material was of light card laminated on both sides (same as the later version in Quadraphonic sound released in 1974)." |

"This release was manufactured and distributed by Discophon of Barcelona on behalf of CBS (subsequent albums such as John Wesley Harding released in 1971 were made by CBS Spain in Madrid). The record has orange CBS labels and legal texts in Spanish, while the songs titles and the album title are just like the original UK and USA releases, and it has also the Johnny Cash poem on the rear sleeve. The rear sleeve has “PRINTED IN SPAIN” in the right lower corner and “DISCOPHON – Barcelona” at bottom centre. The left lower corner has the following text in Spanish: "CBS es la marca registrada de Columbia Broadcasting Systems, Inc., USA [CBS is the trade mark of Columbia Broadcasting Systems, Inc., USA]."

This second mono release of Nashville Skyline made by Discophon is a numbered limited edition of only 300, released in Jan 1970. Manuel's copy shown is #270, stamped at bottom centre of the rear sleeve. Otherwise the sleeve is identical. |

The record labels differ from those of the 1969 release in several ways, most noticeably in the positioning of the "BIEM" copyright logo to the left of the centre hole. The record of Manuel's copy shown has matrix numbers: Side 1 - 63601-A, Side 2 - 63601-B. The record labels of Lars M. Banke's 1970 copy have the same text layout to the left of the centre hole, but to the right of the centre hole the "Depósito Legal" text is immediately below "63601" instead of lower down. Dr. Hanns Peter Bushoff has a copy of this album in an unnumbered sleeve with the 1970 labels - apparently some unnumbered copies were also circulated.
This album was released in Spain later in 1970 in stereo by Fonogram S.A., Madrid, see International Album (Regular).

Like the UK album, this is a stereo-to-mono reduction. Both
front and rear sleeves have unique designs - the front sleeve has Bob's name
and the album title as well as the song title translated into Spanish. On
the rear sleeve the Nashville skyline photo is missing but there's a 1965
photo of Bob and pictures of four contemporary CBS Mexico albums. One of the
albums illustrated on the rear sleeve, Projection 70, contains Lay,
Lady, Lay and the stereo release is included in
International
Albums (Various Artists Compilations) 1960s. The rear
sleeve is the same for both the mono and stereo releases. The song titles
are translated into Spanish on the front and rear sleeves and record labels.
This mono album was released twice, first in 1969 and then again in 1970. The records both have orange CBS labels, but the designs are different: the 1969 release has a Spanish title (Horizontes De Nashville - the Chilean title below was Horizonte De Nashville) and no songs listed above the centre hole. These labels are dated 1969. The 1969 record shown has matrix numbers: Side 1 - 02-11 7946-1A plus 14-09-69 (most probably the mastering date), Side 2 - 02-11 7947-1A plus 14-09-69. The 1970 release has what looks to me like an identical sleeve, but the record labels no longer have the Spanish album title and one song is listed above the centre hole on Side 1 and two songs on Side 2. Like the UK album, this is a stereo-to-mono reduction. On the rear sleeve the song titles are translated into Portuguese below the English titles, and the Johnny Cash poem is translated into Portuguese. Both Michel Pomarede and Simon Blokker have copies with the same front sleeve and record labels as Stuart Moore's, but the rear sleeve has a distinctive blue colour. Hans Seegers, Manuel García Jara and Lars M. Banke confirm there were indeed two rear sleeve variants. Thanks to Lars M. Sergio Mariano Romay has a promo copy with the first variant rear sleeve with a stamp of "AMOSTRA INVENDÁVEL [SAMPLE NOT FOR SALE]". There is what looks like a radio station library sticker on the Side 1 label.

Like the UK album, this is a stereo-to-mono reduction. This very rare release from Chile was manufactured and distributed for CBS by Philips (later PolyGram and now part of Universal). The album title is translated into Spanish as Horizonte De Nashville. The sleeve is of very fragile card and open on three sides. The rear sleeve design has text in Spanish and omits the Nashville skyline picture. The record has orange CBS labels with song titles in Spanish and English. This is the regular Nashville Skyline album with an alternative title from one of its songs (just as Bringing It All Back Home was retitled Subterranean Homesick Blues in Holland). The rear sleeve has a completely different design from the US/UK releases with a picture of Bob at the Isle of Wight Festival on 31 Aug 1969. It still contains the poem by Johnny Cash, translated into Spanish. The titles are also translated into Spanish. On the record itself, sides 1 and 2 are reversed, with the labels having the song titles in Spanish and English. The copy shown has matrix numbers: Side 1 - ALM 47308, Side 2 - ALM 47309. |
