This stereo EP on blue vinyl in a colour picture sleeve includes four tracks with liner notes in Japanese plus lyrics in Japanese and English. The price is ¥1,852 plus tax. Colin Hindson points out that the advance front design included a price of ¥2,000 at top right. This is missing from the front of the commercial release. The yellow/black front sticker has the commercial price of ¥1,852 plus tax. My copy also comes with a separate square bumper sticker (just under 4" wide) with the front sleeve design and a peel-off back. |

Thanks to Fred Muller and Bob Meyer for news that the 1974 Blood On The Tracks test pressing will be released on vinyl on Record Store Day, 13 Apr 2019. This will be an exact reproduction of the 1974 disc with the original mixes (not included on the Deluxe Edition of The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 - More Blood, More Tracks in 2018, almost certainly deliberately) and be limited to 7500 copies worldwide. This will be the first time that the award-winning liner notes by Pete Hamill will actually describe the takes that are on the album! Like previous Record Store Day vinyl records, these records were all apparently made in the EU, even those of the USA release. The records were pressed at MPO International, Averton, France, and the US records also have the "MPO" logo in the vinyl, even though the US labels do not say "Made in the EU". |

My European copy has handwritten matrix numbers: Side 1 - 19-0007-NL 19075931221 A, Side 2 - 19-0007-NL 19075931221 B, plus what looks like "K-1" and "SST" handwritten on the opposite side of the record to the matrix numbers. The "NL" in the matrix numbers refers to Noiseland Industries, Minneapolis, MN, and "K-", "SST" is engineer Daniel Krieger at Schallplatten Schneid Technik [Record Cutting Technology], Frankfurt, Germany, so both these companies were involved in the manufacture of the record. Gerd Rundel's test pressing (of a test pressing!) was made by Noiseland in the USA for MPO in France, and is housed in an MPO generic sleeve (French and Spanish text on the front, English and German text on the back) with handwritten text on the front and date "2-15-19" (15 Feb 2019). The record has MPO test pressing labels with a Noiseland sticker on Side 1 only. It has stamped MPO matrix numbers which are quite different from the final release matrix numbers: Side 1 - MPO 19 105101, Side 2 - MPO 19 101834.

As the performance from the evening show was
released in 2002 on The Bootleg Series Vol. 5: Live
1975 - The Rolling Thunder Revue, this must be the performance from the
afternoon show (Disc 8, track 3 of the 14CD set).
The CD comes in a card sleeve and includes a cover of Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine) by Margo Price plus tracks from artists including Courtney Barnett, Jason Isbell and Hiss Golden Messenger.

| Thanks to Hermann Rechberger, Jack from Canada and Tim Dunn for news of a 14CD set called The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings to be released by Sony Music on 7 Jun 2019. It is reported to be limited to 3000 copies and Amazon are offering it for sale at $109.98 (US) £59.99 (UK). This will be released in conjunction with Martin Scorsese's documentary Rolling Thunder Revue - A Bob Dylan Story By Martin Scorsese, which contains a great deal of performance footage plus an exclusive interview with Bob by Jeff Rosen, and will be available on Netflix about the same time. As this is a Limited Edition (even though it's listed on the bobdylan.com Albums Page), all previously unreleased tracks are rarities and have now been allocated R-numbers. Thanks to Colin Hindson for news that bobdylan.com are offering an "Ultimate Bundle" Limited Edition of 1500 copies of the 14CD set The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings that includes a 12" x 18" film poster for the Netflix film Rolling Thunder Revue - A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese (as shown on the right) and a replica of a luggage tag that was produced in extremely limited quantities in 1975 and given only to members of the revue so that they could be easily identified by the crew on tour.

The bottom of the box is plain red except for the Columbia/Legacy logos and the catalogue number. The box includes a 56-page booklet with notes by Wesley Stace and many previously unseen photos by Ken Regan in the booklet and on the CD sleeves. The CDs come in card sleeves, Discs 1 to 3 and 14 come in single sleeves, Discs 4 to 13 comprise five complete shows and come in gatefold card sleeves each holding two discs.
All the 14 European CDs have copyright text along the bottom edge with catalogue numbers "19075928282-1" to "19075928282-14", although it is sometimes hard to read. Discs 4 to 14 have a completely different design from Discs 1 to 3 and also have a catalogue number "19075928282D4" to "19075928282D14" to the right of the centre hole.
Stuart Moore's copy bought in Australia has the same front sticker as mine and was presumably imported.

Thanks to Sonny Boy McFitzson for information that the set will be available in Japan on 7 Jun 2019 with an imported box as shown above and discs made in Japan with catalogue numbers SICP 6101 to 6114. The price will be ￥15,000 plus tax (￥16,200). The 2002 Classic Records 3LP vinyl edition of The Bootleg Series Vol. 5: Live 1975 - The Rolling Thunder Revue will also be imported into Japan with a 64-page Japanese language booklet.
The Japanese release comes in a clear polythene bag, but the box, the card sleeves and the discs are made in the EU, not the USA. Inside the sealed box the contents on the rear are placed from outside to inside: Japanese rear card → Japanese booklet →EU rear card with removable glue → box. The Japanese booklet contains translation of Wesley Stace's liner notes plus a summary of 1975 by Heckel Sugano and song by song commentaries by Kenta Hagiwara, March 2019. The English & Japanese lyrics are the officially registered ones (as expected), so no lyrics variations and no Bob talks are printed.

Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for information that this 3LP set was reissued on vinyl in Europe on 7 Jun 2019. The set now comes in a slipcase instead of a box, with a booklet, but without the handbills, posters and tickets, or indeed the 7" single. The front of the slipcase is now the same as the 2002 CD releases, while the booklet front has the same design as the 2003 box front. Several sources say this set has been completely remixed/remastered, newly compiled from the same tracks on the 2019 14CD set The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings (digital instead of analogue). However, the included download card (which seems to be in US copies only) points to the digital versions of the 2002 set!

There is a Bonus video for Japan only: Press conference, Brooklyn Bridge Park, 18 Aug 1997.
The Japanese booklet has liner notes by Masanori Terada, former editor of the Japanese "Record Collectors' Magazine". Now he's a super Rolling Stones analyser to the smallest details; translation of Paul Sexton's liner notes, but no lyrics.
On the Like a Rolling Stone performance Sonny Boy McFitzson remarks: "Both Bob & Mick are singing "Now you don't walk so crowd (should be "proud"). Now you don't talk so loud." This is the Stones' adaptation from 1995 and the Stripped album."
Sonny Boy McFitzson adds: "The worst downside of this album, is that the audio is compressed too strongly, this is the so-called "Brickwall Remaster" which kills sound dynamics. The dynamics of the Blu-ray audio are barely kept alive, but little different from the CD. Nevertheless the 5.1 audio is slightly better than the CD. Bob's guitar playing is hardly recognisable because it's buried in the brickwall. Keith's, Ron's and Bob's guitar playing are mixed up in too hard compression so each guitar can't be heard separately. Listening to stuff like this is no better than standing under a ding-dong construction, which has to give you stress and may damage your mental health. This is the regular Universal way, they like to spoil dishes with thick sauce however good the ingredients are. The Beatles Remasters on 9 Sep 2009 could have ended the "Loudness War", but Universal started it all over again after their taking over of EMI."

Top 40 singles from Holland was compiled using the Dutch Top 40 chart
positions. This is why tracks such as Wigwam (which was Bob's biggest hit in
Holland) are included. CD2 includes several rarities, exclusive singles that

above, with a few seconds of silence at the end.
Peter Coulthard says (before the 5CD set above with R-2182 had been discovered): "The recent Dutch Top 40 Dylan 2CD release seems to contain a unique edit of "Hurricane (Part 1)", different to the vinyl single releases from 1975 and 1976. The 2019 Dutch CD version features the first five verses, as per the original 1975/6 singles but then adds the final harmonica passage and longer fade-out of the full length version of the song (timing 4:06). I don't have an original Dutch single (so you might want to check with someone who does), but all the original singles have timings on the labels which are around the 3:42 to 3:45 mark. (My UK single clocks in at 3:42, which agrees with the label.) None show a timing of 4:06. I'm assuming that the edit on the 2019 Dutch CD is either newly-minted for that compilation or possibly an original edit not used on the singles in 1975/6. I suspect it is the former because it is a more sensible conclusion to the song if Part 2 is not immediately accessible to the listener. Either way, you may wish to consider giving the 2019 Dutch CD version its own R number given that there is a splice providing an additional 20-24 seconds of playing time."

R-2127 Not Dark Yet

version from Time Out of Mind (6:30) This edit misses out the instrumental break between verses three and four and the instrumental ending after verse four. All the four verses are present. Terry Harvey also says that additionally, the musical intro has been reduced by about 20 seconds. As far as I can tell this edit is unique to this compilation, but it must date from 1997. Maybe it was intended as a single release which never happened. Thanks to Arie de Reus for reminding me of this 1997 promo CD from Sony Music Germany that contained edited versions of all tracks from Time Out Of Mind. However, the edit of Not Dark Yet at 2:26 is much shorter than R-2127. |

Miami Steve Van Zandt is a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and also has a solo career using the name Little Steven. This 7LP+4CD set covers his solo work of the 1980s plus the 1985 album Sun City. As well as the six albums (one is a 2LP set), there is a 4CD set of bonus tracks. CD3 consists of Sun City out-takes not including Bob, but also includes the 12" remix of the title track. |
