Manhattan MTL 1001 (UK) - LP Side 2 scan by Kenneth Robson (all releases - R-0518) |
The front of the UK LP is the same as that of the Dutch LP. Keith Richards and Ron Wood are also missing from the artist listing on the rear sleeve of the first two releases. The record of Kenneth Robson's copy comes in a picture inner sleeve that doesn't list Silver And Gold for Side 2 on the rear. The front of the inner sleeve has a collage of photos of the participating artists - except Bob!
Paul Shenton has two different copies. The second release copy has the same front sleeve, inner sleeve front and record labels as Kenneth Robson's copy, but the rear sleeve and inner sleeve rear are different. The artist listing is the same omitting Keith Richards and Ron Wood, but Silver And Gold is printed higher up, now part of the track list instead of being separate. Silver And Gold is now listed for Side 2 on the rear of the inner sleeve. Paul's third release copy again has the same front sleeve and record labels, but with a third design rear sleeve, the same as that of the Italian release below. Silver And Gold is now printed on the second line of song titles, not on a separate third line as on the first two rear sleeves, while Keith Richards and Ron Wood are listed alphabetically amongst the artists. Surprisingly, the inner sleeve of this copy is the same as that of the first release, omitting Silver And Gold on the rear - this must be an error!
Manhattan 64 2404671 (Italy):
Manhattan 64 2404671 (Italy) - front photocopy by Paul Shenton |
The Italian release comes with the same inner sleeve as other releases, but there is an extra double-sided insert in English with information about apartheid in South Africa and the Artists United campaign. The artists listing on the rear sleeve is different from all others except the third UK release and the Japanese release, because it adds Keith Richards and Ron Wood in alphabetical order. |

Toshiba-EMI/Manhattan MHS-91149 (Japan):
Thanks to Wil Gielen for scans of the Japanese LP, which has a black/white obi with red/white/black text and price ¥2,800. The release date is given as "I-11-27" (27 Nov 1985). For an explanation of Japanese year code letters from 1985 to 1991 see International Albums (Regular). The artists listing on the rear sleeve adds Keith Richards and Ron Wood at the end, not in alphabetical order like the Italian release. There is a single-sided insert (not shown) and the record is in a full colour paper inner sleeve.
Manhattan MAN-240467 (Australia):
Manhattan ST 53019 (New Zealand):
Thanks to Bill Hester for scans of the New Zealand release, Manhattan ST 53019. This was manufactured by EMI and both their Australian and New Zealand address are given on the rear of the sleeve. The record labels have no country of origin.
EMI 108371 (Argentina):
The Argentinean LP, EMI 108371, was available in both promo and commercial releases. The promo release has monochrome labels with the same dark yellow promo stamp as the single. The reverse of the LP sleeve is also black and white.

Track 1 on Side 2 is Sun City credited to Artistas Unidos Contra Segregación Racial [United Artists Against Apartheid] (probably R-0171)).
