Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for information about 50th Anniversary Collection 1969, a very limited 2CD set in a fold-out card sleeve. Apparently there are only 200 copies for sale in Europe - the UK, France and Germany. The set consists of out-takes from Nashville Skyline and Self Portrait, all of which are rarities.

R-0069-4 One Too Many Mornings – Take 2 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 17 Feb 1969 (3:40)
Take 2 from 17 Feb 1969 was previously released in the 1969 film and video Johnny Cash:
The Man His World His Music (see VHS & DVD 1960s), recorded at Columbia Studios, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969, Take 2, also on a 1984 release called The Other Side Of Nashville (see VHS & DVD 1980s). Thanks to Michel Pomarede and Sonny Boy McFitzson for identifying this take.

R-2154 One Too Many Mornings – Take 2 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (4:01)
This was previously reported to be the take used with Bob's singing replaced by the Avett Brothers for the compilation Chimes Of Freedom (R-0899, see
2012). However, Steve Perrin states categorically that it is not. He says: "This is not the take used for the Avett Brothers track. On this particular take, Cash sings the word “commence” in the first verse. On the Avett Brothers version, Cash sings, “As the night begins to fall.” The original Dylan-Cash take, used as the basis for the Avett Brothers overdubbed version, remains unreleased, although it is available on bootlegs."

Martin Andrzejewki thinks this track (listed as Take 2) is most likely the same track that had already appeared on The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 - Travelin' Thru 1967-1969, CD2, track 3 (listed as Take 3)! Steve Perrin again says: "Martin is correct: 50th AC D2T01 (Take 2) is the exact same performance as BS15 D2T03 (Take 3). It cuts off abruptly, before Cash starts to speak, but it’s definitely the same performance."

R-2155 I Still Miss Someone (Johnny Cash/Roy Cash Jr.) – Takes 1 & 3 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (0:58)

R-2156 I Still Miss Someone (Johnny Cash/Roy Cash Jr.) – Take 4 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (2:21)
Steve Perrin again says: "This track is the exact same performance as Disc 2, track 6 of The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 - Travelin' Thru 1967-1969. Columbia has messed up again here with another superfluous duplication." I have therefore removed R-2156 from the Rarities list.

R-2157 Matchbox – Rehearsal with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (0:51)

R-2158 Matchbox – Take 2 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (3:05)

R-2159 Big River – Take 2 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (1:59)

R-2160 I Walk The Line – Take 1 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (2:15)

R-2161 Ring of Fire – Takes 2 & 3 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (2:44)

R-2162 Guess Things Happen That Way – Take 1 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (0:45)

R-2163 Guess Things Happen That Way – Take 2 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (1:37)

R-2164 Guess Things Happen That Way – Take 6 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (1:44)
Although this is very similar to Take 3 on The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 - Travelin' Thru 1967-1969 (1:46), which has a little more drumming at the end, Steve Perrin says they are definitely different performances.

R-2165 Waiting for A Train – Take 1 with Johnny Cash, Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969 (0:55)
Sonny Boy McFitzson: "This is exactly the same as the leading 55sec of Jimmie Rodgers Medley No. 2 (Take 2) from The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 - Travelin' Thru 1967-1969!".

13. Running (2:27)*

Bob Dylan: vocals, guitar
Fred F. Carter, Norman Blake, Charlie Daniels: guitars
Bob Wilson: piano
Peter Drake: steel guitar
Charlie McCoy: bass
Kenneth Buttrey: drums
Delores Edgin and Dottie Dillard: background vocals

* Running was thought to possibly be the 1956 country song Running Away by Floyd Tillman - it's now revealed to be a previously unreleased song by Bob (although apparently it is based on the Tillman song)! It was recorded for Self Portrait but not used, then planned to appear on the 1973 Dylan album, but finally dropped. It also didn't make The Bootleg Series Vol. 10 - Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) in 2013, or The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 - Travelin' Thru 1967-1969 in Nov 2019!

R-2166 Running - Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 26 Apr 1969 (2:27)
Sonny Boy McFitzson: "This one seems to be based upon the Floyd Tillman song, but the chord structures and lyrics were intentionally re-written by Bob as was often the case with a song for Self Portrait."

Fred F. Carter, Norman Blake, Charlie Daniels: guitars
Bob Wilson: piano
Peter Drake: steel guitar
Doug Kershaw: fiddle
Charlie McCoy: bass
Kenneth Buttrey: drums
Delores Edgin and Dottie Dillard: background vocals

R-2167 Take A Message To Mary - Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 3 May 1969 (2:31)

R-2168 Blue Moon - Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 3 May 1969 (2:29)

R-2169 Blue Moon - Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 3 May 1969 (2:19)

R-2170 Ring of Fire - Columbia Studio A, Nashville, TN, 3 May 1969 (2:33)

Sonny Boy McFitzson: "CD2, tracks 14-17 - These tracks have slight wows & flutters and crackles, not master quality. The damages could be easily fixed but weren't just because they were rejected from the commercial tracklisting."

All songs written by Bob Dylan except I Still Miss Someone by Johnny Cash and Roy Cash, Jr.; Matchbox by Carl Perkins; Big River and I Walk the Line by Johnny Cash; Ring of Fire by June Carter and Merle Kilgore; Guess Things Happen That Way by Jack Clement; Waiting for a Train by Jimmie Rodgers; Take a Message to Mary by Felice Bryant and Boudleaux Bryant; Blue Moon by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.

Thanks to Steve Perrin for information that a "factory-pressed" pirate release in packaging virtually indistinguishable from the original appeared for sale in July 2020,

Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin, Martin Andrzejewki and Sonny Boy McFitzson for information and scans.
