Various Artists - "Double Impact" - compilation CD, Dino Records DIN 213D
(Australia), 1992?:
Dino Records was an Australian budget label similar to K-Tel in the UK that
released unique compilations - this one features duets, as the title Double
Impact suggests. Also on the
album is a version of Mr. Tambourine Man by Crowded House and Roger McGuinn.
R-0122-4 Sign Language (with
Eric Clapton) - Bob
duets with Eric on this version of his otherwise unreleased song from Eric's RSO album No Reason To Cry, see
1976. Also see
1976 for all other releases
of this track.
The lyrics of this song on bobdylan.com are
here.
This track is credited to "Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan & Robbie Robertson" - Robbie Robertson and the other Band members were present at the session. Other instances of R-0122 don't credit Robbie Robertson.
Thanks to Neale Judd for information and scans.

This CD or cassette was included with an edition of the Planeta-Agostini "Rock" magazine, but unfortunately I don't have details of the magazine with which it came. All these magazine could be stored in binders and built up into an encyclopaedia of rock music. |

24 Feb 1990, from the Columbia/Legacy 4CD boxed set The Byrds,
see 1990
This live version is not indicated as such on the CD or cassette inserts. Bob
and The Byrds also performed He Was A Friend Of Mine at that concert, but the
version included here is from The Byrds' 1965 album with the same title as this
(a completely different album, shown here for information).
As well as R-0217, this album includes covers of All I Really Want To Do; He Was A Friend Of Mine (wrongly credited to "J. McGuinn"); Lay, Lady, Lay; Just Like A Woman. Chestnut Mare co-written by Bob's Desire collaborator Jacques Levy is misspelled as "Chesnut" Mare on both the CD and cassette inserts.

Wil Gielen has a copy of the US release without the long box imported into Japan with an obi from MSI Tokyo record distributors. The black/white obi is dated 25 Apr 1996 and has price ¥2,500 (¥2,427 plus sales tax). As well as the 12 page stapled booklet in English there is a 12-page folded insert in English and Japanese. Leon Russell and Ringo Starr at The Concert For Bangladesh, Madison Square
Garden, New York, 1 Aug 1971 (evening show)
Capitol is part of EMI, as is Apple. For the original Apple album release and subsequent CD releases, see 1972. It's a stretch of the imagination to think of this song as a "train tune", unless the compiler was thinking of a train whistle! Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans. |

"Paths Of Victory" - 8" acetate of Witmark demo, MPHC Reference Recording (no catalogue number) (USA), recorded 1963, offered for sale by auction, Dec 1992:
Picture from "Isis" 46, Dec 1992/Jan 1993 |
R-0465 Paths Of Victory - Witmark demo (different from
version released in 1991 on The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3, see
International Album Releases) This is no longer a rarity because it was released officially in 2010 on the Columbia/Legacy/Sony Music set The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 - The Witmark Demos 1962-1964. "MPHC" stands for “Music Publishers Holding Corporation,” of which Witmark was a part. Some sources give the date of this Witmark demo as Dec 1963, although the Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3 version was recorded on Columbia Studios, New York, on 12 Aug 1963, which would place any publishing company demo somewhat earlier. This single-sided 8" acetate is housed in an "audiodisc" generic sleeve, see 7" Single Sleeves. Thanks to Derek Barker of "Isis" magazine for the information. For three 1963 MPHC acetates of Long Ago, Far Away, Quit Your Lowdown Ways and I'd Hate To Be You On That Dreadful Day, see 1963. For a 1964 MPHC acetate of I Don't Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met), see Mono Singles & EPs 1962-64. For a 1965 Columbia acetate of Positively 4th Street in an "audiodisc" sleeve, see Mono 7" Singles & EPs 1965. Tim Dunn saw an MPHC acetate with Let Me Die In My Footsteps at the Bob Dylan exhibition at the Experience Music Project, Seattle, WA, in Jan 2005. |
