Mono 7" Singles & EPs: 1969 - Tonight I'll Be
Staying Here With You

This page contains promotional and commercial
releases of mono 7" singles and EPs with Tonight I'll Be Staying Here
With You for 1969. Although Bob's original mono albums from Bob Dylan to
John Wesley Harding were released on CD as The Original Mono Recordings
in Oct 2010, the mono release of Nashville Skyline was a reduction from
stereo so was not included. It is currently no longer possible to buy mono versions of these album tracks. Mono LPs have their own pages,
see Mono
Album Releases. Because of the length of the 1969 Mono Singles page, the other major 1969
singles are now here:
[ Home ] [ Up ] [ Mono 7" Singles 1969 - Lay, Lady, Lay ] [ Mono 7" Singles 1969 - I Threw It All Away ] [ Mono 7" Singles 1969 - Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You ]
For 1969 Dylan mono 7" singles and EPs with rarities see 1969. For illustrations of all the generic 7" single sleeves
used by Bob's record companies from the 1960s onwards, see the
7"
Single Sleeves page. (A single has much less value to a collector if it doesn't
have its correct original sleeve.)
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

The mono tracks listed here must have been reductions from stereo, since no
mono mix was actually created for Nashville Skyline.
However, as per Mark Easter's comments for I Threw It All Away/Drifter's Escape
(see here),
these tracks could have been specially mixed in mono for the 7" single releases.
Even so, as there's no other evidence to support this at present I assume they
are just the mono reductions. For mono versions of Nashville Skyline, see
Mono Album Releases.
Some of these singles have the B-side Country Pie timed at 1:52, but the album version is
1:36. However Ian Woodward has timed two single B-sides, one timed at 1:52 and one at
1:36 and discovered they both play at 1:31-1:32. The 1:52 timing must be a
mistake, although the 1974 quadraphonic version of Country Pie is indeed 1:52
(R-0114,
see 1974).

None of these singles had picture sleeves.
The US single was pressed with
two label variants - the first has publisher credits (Big Sky Music)
underneath the track timings to the right of the centre hole, on the second
they're absent. The second variant is also available as a promo with a "For
Demonstration Use Only Not For Sale" sticker on both A- and B-sides. Sergio Mariano
Romay has a copy of the second variant where the sticker has the same text,
    but in capital letters.

The A-side of these singles has a matrix number of "ZSP
151065" while the B-side has a matrix number of "ZSP 151064". This would
indicate that Country Pie was intended to be the A-side, but the single was only
marketed like that as a jukebox single (see below). Jürgen Wasser has a jukebox
strip showing Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With
You as the A-side.

"Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You"/"Country Pie" - 7" mono
single, CBS 4611 (UK/Ireland), 19
Dec 1969:

CBS 4611 (UK), promo single - A-side scan by Hans Seegers |

The UK and Irish singles did not have picture sleeves.
The UK white label promo single has the release date of
19 Dec 1969 printed on the A-side The B-side of this promo single is timed at
1:52 (the US mono single length). Both sides have "U.S.A. PRODUCTION" in the
centre. Hans Seegers' commercial copy has a push-out
centre like the promo single, but Manuel García Jara's copy has a solid centre.
On both of these commercial copies the words "U.S.A. PRODUCTION" are missing
from the labels. Surprisingly the B-side of both UK commercial singles is timed
at 1:36 (the album track length), while on the Irish single shown it's timed at
1:52! COMMENT!

UK test pressing label scan by Arie de Reus |

This UK single-sided mono test pressing was made for publishing company B. Feldman &
Co, 64 Dean Street, London, W1. The track plays at 1:33 whereas the album
track from Nashville Skyline is 1:36 - this seems to be just a
mastering speed variation. However, the mix is slightly different from the
album track (and also presumably from these mono single versions) in that the piano is mixed lower and the guitar higher than on the album track.
For more details see 1969. |

Thanks to Hans Seegers, Manuel García Jara and
Arie de Reus for information and scans.

The commercial single had another unique front sleeve
and a generic rear sleeve with details of six contemporary CBS West German
albums.
The record had a spelling mistake on the A-side label
song title (HER WITH YOU" instead of "HERE WITH YOU"), later corrected. The promo West German single came in a CBS "Blitzinformation"
sleeve, again with a generic rear. The record itself was the corrected
commercial release with a promo stamp "Muster ohne Wert [Sample without value]".
The B-side was the same for all three singles shown.

not have the correct text at the bottom. A legitimate promo copy is shown
      below.
The legitimate Portuguese single initially had a spelling mistake on the spine of
the sleeve - "BOB DYLAM" instead of "BOB DYLAN". This sleeve was
      withdrawn and the mistake corrected.

text "AMOSTRA GRÁTIS PROMOCIONAL [FREE PROMOTIONAL SAMPLE]" on the rear sleeve.
This copy has the earliest version of the rear sleeve. It has the "BOB DYLAM"

YOU" on the second line of the song title is aligned under "TONIGHT" and there
are ten dots between "YOU" and "3:32". On the second variant with THE
"BOB DYLAM" spelling mistake and the later variant with the spelling mistake
corrected "WITH" is indented slightly so that there are only nine dots
between "YOU" and "3:32"!

This Indian single with the US catalogue number has black CBS labels with silver text and is very rare, as
