DON'T MAKE HER CRY | Bob Dylan/Regina McCrary, 2017; Bob Dylan/Regina McCrary/Julie Miller, 2023 | O |
Tim Dunn said in 2017: "Browsing the BMI Repertoire this afternoon I located a Dylan/Regina McCrary song called DON'T MAKE HER CRY. According to the BMI Repertoire the publisher is "Songs Of Universal, Inc.", but I would say it is likely additional publishers could be involved (maybe Gina Mac Publishing Co. and Special Rider Music, both copyright claimants for their song GIVE HIM MY ALL). According to the Nashville Ledger, 8 Dec 2017, the song was written in 2017. It was inspired by her father, Rev. Sam McCrary of the gospel group Fairfield Four, saying to Dylan "don't make her cry" when Regina was going on the road with Dylan for the gospel tours (Dylan replied "Yes, sir"). Regina McCrary is quoted: "It hasn't been recorded yet." Thanks to Jack from Canada for news that the song will be released in the USA by Buddy and Julie Miller on 22 Sep 2023 on their New West album "In The Throes". This 2023 version has added lyrics and new music by Julie Miller |

Lyrics from the song are quoted in Clinton Heylin's book "Bob Dylan Behind The Shades: The Biography Take Two" (Viking, 2000/Penguin, 2001).
