Interviewed by Kathleen Mackay in her book "Bob Dylan: Intimate Insights from Friends and Musicians" (Omnibus Press, 2007), Noel "Paul" Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary said he wrote this song but wasn't happy with the ending, so Albert Grossman asked if he could show it to Bob. Bob wrote a final verse "that had wheat germ and health food in it" but Noel Stookey eventually devised his own ending. Therefore the version of the song released on Peter, Paul and Mary's album "A Song Will Rise" (Warner Bros, 1965) has no Dylan input. Thanks to Tim Dunn for the information |
