R-0205 Dead Man, Dead Man - live version from Saenger Performing Arts Center, New Orleans, LA. 10 Nov 1981

Thanks to Rob van Estrik for information: "The complete 1981 New Orleans concert was recorded and remixed by Daniel Lanois. This track is taken from that remix."

This live performance is also on the B-side of a 1989 Japanese cassette single (scan required), on the 1993 Japanese promo CD Mr. D's Collection # 3 (see 1993), and on the 2001 Japanese live compilation Bob Dylan Live 1961-2000: Thirty Nine Years Of Great Concert Performances (see 2001)

The UK and Dutch 12" single has I Want You live from Dylan And The Dead as the third track. The UK single has a blue sleeve, while the Dutch single has a black sleeve. The right-hand pictures show the A- and B-sides of the original 12" UK acetate, stock labels with handwritten song titles. R-0205 is not shown as live (see comments below).

The vinyl singles themselves have red labels with the white CBS logo. The Dutch single label identifies the source of R-0205, but the UK label does not.

There was also a UK "Limited Edition" 12" single (CBS 655358 8) with free numbered print and sticker on cover. The labels of the record were still 655358 6.

"Everything Is Broken" - 3" and 5" CD European singles: BS 655358 2 (UK CD single in card sleeve), CBS 655358 3 Europe 3" CD single), 23 Oct 1989:

EIBCDFront.JPG (38291 bytes)
CBS 655358 2 (UK) - 5" CD single card sleeve (my copy)

Instead of the live I Want You on the 12" single, the 4 track CD single has Where Teardrops Fall from Oh Mercy and The Ugliest Girl In The World from Down In The Groove. Alan Hoaksey also reports a 12" single release with this tracklist but Hans Seegers says no such item was produced.

The UK 5" CD single came in a card sleeve with a detail of the album front picture. It was made in the UK by PDO (Philips & Dupont Optical) at their plant in Blackburn, Lancashire. For more UK CBS singles made by PDO between 1990 and 1993, see International Singles: Singles & EPs 1990-1999.

The 3" CD single and the vinyl singles have the full picture.

EIB3CD.jpg (24942 bytes)
CBS 655358 3 (Austria for Europe) - 3" CD single

The 3" card sleeve is the only CD sleeve that actually identifies the performance of Dead Man, Dead Man - "Recorded live in New Orleans, November 10, 1981"! The 3" CD (right) is red, while the 5" CD is silver.

Thanks to David Plentus, Hans Seegers and Brian Clarke for information and scans. The UK 12" single, UK 5" CD single and Austrian 3" CD single are my copies.

This single was only issued in the USA as a cassette.

EIBUSCassFront.jpg (69277 bytes)
Columbia 38T 73062 (USA) - cassette single front scan by John Howells
This US cassette single in a card sleeve has Everything Has Broken plus R-0205, also identified as "Recorded live in New Orleans, November 10, 1981". This was the last commercial (i.e. on direct sale to the public) Dylan single in any format issued in the USA until "Independent Record Store Day" promotions started in Apr 2009!
