Gerd Rundel has a "promo" 2LP set from eBay which is definitely faked. The front sticker is actually printed on, the small text on the rear sleeve is blurred, the labels look hand printed and are badly glued on. The matrix number on all four record labels to the left of the centre hole is "BL 67099" - the numbers should be "AL 67098", "BL 67098", "AL 67099" and "BL 67099". Arie de Reus bought one at a record fair and also says it is definitely a fake. The records of this copy have unlikely handwritten matrix numbers: Side 1 - 001-A, Side 2 - 001-B, Side 3 - 001-C, Side 4 - 001-D. Thanks to Gerd Rundel and Arie de Reus for information and scans. |

This vinyl release doesn't have the extra track. Both records are housed in a regular sleeve (no gatefold sleeve!). Each record comes in its own printed inner sleeve with lyrics. The record of Gerd Rundel's copy have handwritten matrix numbers: Side 1 - AL-67098-2A, Side 2 - BL-67098-2B, Side 3 - AL-67099-3A (-2A scratched out), Side 4 - BL-67099-2B. Sides 2, 3 and 4 also have “MASTERDISK” stamped in the vinyl. |

"MTV Unplugged - promo stereo cassette releases, Columbia CT 67000 (USA), 1995:

The first promo cassette release has a pink insert with black
text, blank on the reverse. "U.S. VERSION" has been added in handwriting to
show the cassette does not include Love Minus Zero/No Limit. On Side 1 the
order of Desolation Row and Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 is reversed compared to
the CD release. The cassette itself is transparent smoked grey with
pink Columbia labels with black text. The second promo cassette release was made by NOW! Recording Systems, Inc., a cassette duplication facility in New York that was often used by some of the major labels for advance promo cassettes. There is a lime green insert with black text, blank on the reverse, this time with the "CT 67000" catalogue number. The cassette is again transparent smoked grey, this time with lime green paper labels with song titles. It also does not include Love Minus Zero/No Limit. |

In the UK MTV Unplugged was also available as a Simply Vinyl Limited Edition 2LP set, Simply Vinyl SVLP 100/Columbia 478374-1. This release has an extra track, Love Minus Zero/No Limit, on Side 3 and is also listed in 1995. There was no gatefold sleeve, the two records were housed in a single deep sleeve which came in a clear Simply Vinyl plastic wallet with stickers. Also inside the sleeve was a four-page lyrics/information insert and a Simply Vinyl catalogue. The records were in plain white inner sleeves and had orange CBS-style labels with three tracks per side. The records of the copy shown has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - SVLP 100 A-01-01-1; Side 2 - SVLP 100 B-01-01-1; Side 3 - SVLP 100 C-01-01-1; Side 4 - SVLP 100 D-01-01-1. |

Gerd Rundel points out two differences on the rear sleeve from the Dutch release below - the Simply Vinyl web address below the copyright text and the missing number "01-478374-20" at rear bottom left. Gerd Rundel's copy has a small "MADE IN ENGLAND" sticker at rear bottom right, not present on my copy.

Gerd Rundel and Carl Torstensson's Dutch copies have different characters underneath the bar code on the rear sleeve. Like those of the US release, the Dutch records come in printed inner sleeves. This release has the extra track, Love Minus Zero/No Limit, and is also listed in 1995. Because of this the inner sleeves are different from those of the US release, which doesn't have the extra track on Side 3. |

The records have red Columbia labels numbered A to D and Gerd Rundel's copy shown has handwritten matrix numbers: Side A - 01-478374-20-/A-1 DYLAN-A-INTL, Side B - 01-478374-20-/B-1 DYLAN-B-INTL, Side C - 01-478374-20-/C-1 DYLAN-C-INTL, Side D - 01-478374-20-/D-1 DYLAN-D-INTL. The text “MASTERDISK” is handwritten on Side A, B, C, while Side D has the text “MASTER”.

cassette comes with the same multi-folded insert as Manuel's Spanish release
except for a different copyright line on the outside of the unfolded
insert (shown). The cassette has “MADE IN HOLLAND” and is transparent smoked

Saudi Arabia and was made by Modern Electronics Establishment, Jeddah, Saudi
Arabia, licensed by Sony Music. It is for sale in GCC (Gulf Co-operation
Council) countries only -
Saudi Arabia,
Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman.
Side 2 includes Love Minus Zero/No Limit, so
this release is included in 1995. The cassette itself

The promo cassette Side 2 also has the mistake edit of Knocking On Heaven's Door with loop of cheering overdubbed (R-0232), not on the commercial Side 2. The promo release has a monochrome insert, blank on the inside, with "ADVANCE COPY" on the front. The cassettes are clear with white printed text, there are no paper labels. |

This cassette release was made in Argentina and has the same multi-folded insert as several cassette releases above with the song lyrics in English on the inside. The song titles are in English and Spanish on the insert, and in Spanish only on the cassette itself. "Sony Music" is embossed on the rear of the black cassette case and also printed on the leader tape. The cassette is transparent grey with white text, there are no paper labels. This release again has the extra track, Love Minus Zero/No Limit, and is also listed in 1995. As far as I know this was the only release of this album in Argentina, there were no vinyl or CD releases. |

As far as I know this release is still on sale in the USA and Canada. It has a long folded front insert. Harald Sigvartsen has the US release and noticed that the running order of tracks 6 and 7 are different from the European release. Track 6 on the US and Canadian releases is Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, and track 7 is Desolation Row (as on the vinyl and tape releases). As well as the extra track, this release also had the clapping loop on Knockin' On Heaven's Door on its first release. The release with the clapping loop and its replacement were both SRCS 7616 - the faulty CD has matrix number DP-7482 1 (on the clear centre of the CD), the corrected CD has matrix number DP-7552 1. Promo and commercial copies of the faulty CD are shown. The promo copy has a pink numbered sticker on the rear insert and the text "SAMPLE" in the clear centre of the CD. The faulty CDs have a purple Sony logo, while the corrected CD has a blue Sony logo (much harder to see in the scan). All copies of this album had a grey, white, black and red obi with the price ¥2,300 (¥2,233 plus sales tax) and release date "95-5-11" (11 May 1995). The withdrawal date was 10 May 1997. The front is a 12-page folded insert in English and there is also a 4-page folded inset in English and Japanese.

The MiniDisc has a wrap-around obi with red and black text and price ¥2.300 (¥2.233 plus sales tax). The release date is 21 May 1995 and the withdrawal date is 20 May 1997. There is a 12 page folded insert in English plus a 6-page folded insert in English and Japanese. The faulty MiniDisc was withdrawn and the corrected MiniDisc was released on 29 May 1995 - both MiniDiscs are visually identical.

This release in a white card sleeve is part of a set from Sony
Music/Columbia in Germany called
"Alben
Für Die Ewigkeit [Albums For Eternity]". The front sleeve has the normal
artwork, the white German text is printed on a clear plastic outer sleeve! As
this is a European release, it includes Love Minus Zero/No Limit, so is also
listed in 1995.

This massive set is the latest in a series of "Complete Columbia Album Collections" featuring artists such as Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and even Blue Oyster Cult. The CD version of the set includes 41 Dylan albums in card sleeves, 14 of which have been remastered for this project, plus a 2CD set of previously released non-album tracks entitled Side Tracks. The albums exclude all compilations and The Bootleg Series sets, but do include the deleted 1973 Dylan album, also see 1973, and the extra 2CD set Side Tracks includes one side of the 1971 single George Jackson (Acoustic version), R-0085, see 1971. The set is therefore listed in 2013. The set also includes a hard cover book with extensive new liner notes and previously unseen photos.
All the CDs come in card sleeves. The European sleeves are made of thicker card than the US sleeves, but they are otherwise identical, so are not shown. The catalogue number on the sleeve is "88691924312JK35" plus "DISC 39". The CDs are different in detail, the US MTV Unplugged CD has catalogue number "88691924312D39", whereas the European CD has catalogue number "88691924312-39". The European CD was made in the EU (probably Austria). The US and European copyright details are printed at the bottom of the Bob Dylan CDs, and round the circumference for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan onwards, so I haven't shown them for these CDs. Unusually the European CD39 release does not include Love Minus Zero/No Limit, so it must have been copied from the US release.

Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for news that the final set of albums in The Complete Album Collection was released by Sony Music in Japan on 20 Dec 2014. MTV Unplugged will be SICP-30583. "All the albums feature high-fidelity Blu-spec CD2 format and the remastering from 2013 used in US/European The Complete Album Collection. They also include lyrics, new liner notes, and the original liner notes. This series is aimed to replicate the original albums, including attachments such as ad stickers." |
