This is the third part of a separate multi-year list by release date of commercially-released stereo Dylan-only compilation albums (including Greatest Hits albums with non-standard tracklists) that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are all available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site.
Promo-only Dylan compilation albums including Radio Station Albums are now here.

If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

Bob Dylan Compilations

For Greatest Hits albums with the standard US tracklists see International Albums (Regular). There are also several international Bob Dylan compilation albums such as The Essential Bob Dylan which contain rarities in the main Searching For A Gem list.

For full details, see here. The album has no title on the front or rear sleeve or the record labels, but has the title Grandes Exitos [Greatest Hits] on the spine only. Bob Dylan/The Grateful Dead - "Royalty Of Rock: A
Celebration Of The Rock Empire" -
radio broadcast LP, radio series made by TM Special Products (USA), 1982; RKO
Radio Networks (USA), 1983/1987:
I've included this here because Bob occupies a full side of the LP.
Tim Dunn says: "Dylan comprises segments 1 and 2 of the disc (side 1) and runs 28:35. Most of the songs have voiceovers at the beginning.
Segment 1: Blowin' In The Wind from Freewheelin', incomplete; Like A Rolling Stone from Highway 61 Revisited, complete; Subterranean Homesick Blues from Bringing It Al Back Home, complete, with brief comments from Billy James & "rock journalist" Mitchell Fink.
Segment 2: Lay Lady Lay from Nashville Skyline, complete; Tangled Up In Blue from Blood On The Tracks, complete; Saved, album version, incomplete (with voiceover of Cameron Crowe marring most of the song); The Times They Are A-Changin', album version, complete. Carl Wilson also contributes a sentence or two.
The Grateful Dead are Segments 3 & 4 (side 2) and there is no relation to the Dylan segments. The songs are generally from Workingman's Dead and American Beauty."
Because these excerpts are unique and not released on commercial/promo records, they are no longer listed with R-numbers.
This programme was rebroadcast in 1983 by RKO Radio Networks and again in 1987. Thanks to Hans Seegers for scans of the 1982 broadcast disc and to Jean-Pol Hiernaux for scans of the 1983 Dylan cue sheet and disc. There are no broadcast dates shown, the discs are copyrighted 1982 and 1983 respectively. The 1983 discs have matrix numbers ROR-NONCOM-DYLAN/DEAD-A & -B. Scans of the 1987 broadcast disc required!
"Electric Lunch" - 12" promo-only 6 track sampler LP, Columbia AS 1471 (USA), 1982:
This 12" mini-album has three tracks each from the former Asylum/Island albums Planet Waves and Before The Flood.
Side 1: You Angel You; On A Night Like This; Forever Young (from Planet Waves)
Side 2: All Along The Watchtower; Highway 61 Revisited; Stage Fright (from Before The Flood)
It was prepared for the "Superstars Radio Network" to mark the albums' move to the Columbia label. The front picture by Morgan Renard is from the 1980s, but the rear sleeve shows Bob and The Band from 1974, taken by Barry Feinstein. There is also an inner sleeve with a photo of Bob in a dining car on a train from Nuremburg to Paris on 3 Jul 1978 during the 1978 tour, also taken by Barry Feinstein, and more information and quotes about the albums on the reverse. The record of my copy has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 – XSM170158-2B, Side 2 – XSM170159-1A. It also has “COLUMBIA NY” stamped on both sides, The record of Gerd Rundel's copy has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 – XSM170158-2D, Side 2 – XSM170159-1D.
Thanks to Harold Lepidus for pointing out that all songs are credited to "B. Dylan", even Stage Fright (the Band number written by Robbie Robertson). Thanks also to Dag Braathen for information about the train photo.

This promo five-track sampler 12" LP made in Holland plays at 45 rpm! I'm classifying it as an LP instead of a 12" single only because it has "LP" in the sleeve catalogue number. (The catalogue number is "SAMP LP 1052" on the rear sleeve but only "SAMP 1052" on the record labels.)
It has: Side 1: Abandoned Love; Caribbean Wind; Tangled Up In Blue; Side 2: Lay Lady, Lay; Up To Me, all from Biograph (see 1985). The rear sleeve has the words "FOR PROMOTION ONLY - NOT FOR SALE". The record of Gerd Rundel's copy has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - II-1052-1A-1, Side 2 - II-1052-1B-1.
Thanks to Alan Hoaksey, Ulf Gyllenspetz and Gerd Rundel for information and scans.

Side 2: Mr. Tambourine Man; Just Like A Woman; All The Tired Horses; Early Mornin' Rain; Little Sadie; Living The Blues.

The text elements to the left and right of the centre hole are different, and also the circumference text is different. On the promo copy there is one line of circumference text around the entire label. On my copy there are two lines of circumference text in the top half of the label only. Tom Willems has a commercial copy where the labels are this style, which must be earlier than mine.
Thanks to Alexandre Froemming for this album!
"Presença De Bob Dylan [The Presence Of Bob Dylan]" - 2 cassette set, Discos CBS 16.750 (Brazil), 1987:

This cassette is light yellow with black text printed directly on to it, there are no paper labels, and has Dolby noise reduction. The song titles are in English only. The cassette is sealed (no screws), so cannot be opened. This plastic cassette has “CBS 43.203.520” stamped into both sides (this may be the Brazilian C.G.C. number). It has a folded card insert, printed both sides. The front reproduces the same picture as the LP release, and the reverse has the song titles - again only in English - and copyrights in blue ink.
Thanks to Sergio Mariano Romay for information and scans.
