This cassette is single-sided and contains the full album version of
Tight Connection To My Heart (5:20), plus Clean-Cut Kid, Emotionally Yours,
When The Night Comes Falling From The Sky and Dark Eyes, all of which are
faded out at 2:30. Because of this, this cassette has been added to 1985. Thanks to Keith Venturoni for information and scan. |

Sergio Mariano Romay has a promo copy with a gold stamp with text “4154 – FOR PROMOTION ONLY – Ownership Reserved By CBS – Sale Is Unlawful” embossed over the barcode. The record of this copy has handwritten matrix numbers: Side 1 - AL 40110 – 1H, Side 2 - BL 40110 – 1K. Jurgen Vreugdenhil has a promo copy where the number on the gold stamp is "4031", which implies all the promo copies were individually numbered. The record of this copy has handwritten matrix numbers: Side 1 - AL 40110–1H, Side 2 - BL-40110– 1B.
Sam Staycoff has a copy of FC 40110 where all the black text is missing from the Side 2 label. The Side 1 label is normal and the record plays the correct tracks on both sides. I have not heard of a copy like this before.

This release has “Manufactured and Distributed by CBS Records Canada Ltd.” printed on the rear of sleeve, and "LITHO IN CANADA” on the spine. The inner sleeve has a raised lip on the rear to assist removal of the record. The record has red Columbia labels with the yellow Columbia logo in a ring round the outside and handwritten matrix numbers: Side 1 - AL-40110-1A-2Z:, Side 2 - BL-40110-1A-2Z:. CBS labels. Both the sleeve and the record of the UK release were made in
England.

record labels of Gerd Rundel's first copy have the same text layout as those
of 1984's Real Live. Gerd Rundel's second copy comes in the same
outer and inner sleeves but has significantly different labels:

These record labels are all still orange/yellow, although the record labels for Biograph from Nov 1985, sourced from Holland, were the new red design, as were the record labels of 1986's Knocked Out Loaded UK release. The record of this second copy has matrix numbers: Side 1 - CBS 86313 A2, Side 2 - CBS 86313 B1.
I assume there must be a UK release where the record has red labels like the late 1980s Dutch release below - scans required!

This release has a three-fold front insert and a black cassette with orange/yellow CBS labels. The inner sleeve text is present on the inside of the insert but the pictures are missing. The cassette labels have become badly discoloured with age by the glue beneath. | |

These very rare Irish releases found by Gerd Rundel have the UK inner and outer sleeves as above but the records were made in Ireland. There are two record label variants - the first has CBS copyright information at the bottom, like the two UK releases above, the second has no text at the bottom. The records of both copies shown have handwritten matrix numbers: Side 1 - CBS-86313-A1, Side 2 - CBS-86313-B1.

The sleeves and records of all the Dutch releases were made in Holland. These records again come in picture inner sleeves and the 1985 release has orange/yellow CBS labels. The record of the late 1980s release has red CBS labels.
Gerd Rundel has a 1985 copy where the front sleeve has two stickers, one promoting three tracks from the album, and one promoting the CBS "Hitwave 85" campaign (for Hitwave 85, a CBS Holland cassette compilation with Tight Connection To My Heart from Empire Burlesque, see International Album Releases (Various Artists Compilations) 1980-86). This dates the album as Summer 1985, but the record has the red labels of Manuel's "late 1980s" copy, which implies that original copies with orange/yellow record labels were available only briefly. Lars M. Banke has a 1985 copy where the front sleeve just has the CBS "Hitwave 85" sticker. The record this time has orange/yellow record labels but with no black text on the Side 2 label - only "CBS" and the CBS logo. The record of this copy has matrix numbers: Side 1 - 01-86313-2A-1 (stamped) AL 40110-1F (handwritten), Side 2 - 01-86313-1B-1 (stamped) BL 40110-1D (handwritten).

The 1991 Columbia release has a new catalogue number, Columbia 467840 1. The sleeve of the copy shown has a "NICE PRICE DYLAN ORIGINALS: 30 YEARS ON COLUMBIA" sticker on the front. The record comes in the same printed inner sleeve as both 1980s releases. The barcode and the copyright line on the rear of the sleeve are different than on both 1980s releases. The 1991 album comes with a double-sided "NICE PRICE DYLAN ORIGINALS: 30 YEARS ON COLUMBIA" 12" insert with illustrations of all the "NICE PRICE" and other Columbia Dylan albums. The record has red Columbia labels and the copy shown has matrix numbers: Side 1 - "01-86313-3A-1" (handwritten) "AL 40110-1F" (handwritten), Side 2 -"BL 40110-1D" (handwritten) "01-86313-1B-1" (stamped) plus "STERLING" stamped on each side of the vinyl. |

This copy has a promo sticker with text in German "Unverkäufliches Muster [Sample Not for Sale]" on the rear sleeve. There is also a front sticker with the name "Frieder Berlin" and the date "JUNI 1985 [June 1985]". Frieder Berlin is a German jazz musician who also worked as a music journalist in the 1980s, so this copy must have been part of his collection. This copy also has a German promo "Plattenpass [Record Passport]" folded card inside with details of the album and a Dylan bio in German

The early 1990s cassette release is now on the Columbia label and has a new catalogue number. It has the same sized insert, this time with a barcode on the outside. The layout of the text on the inside of the insert is quite different. There is no lyrics insert, although this may just be missing from the copy shown. The cassette is black with red Columbia labels. There might be a late 1980s CBS version of this release.

There are two orange/yellow record label variants. The first release has the text in the centre of the label ("ESTEREO", "33⅓" and "SGAE") in a lighter colour and has much longer text round the circumference. Both records shown with yellow labels have matrix numbers: Side 1 - 86313 AO, Side 2 - 86313 BO.

As can be seen, the layout of the text elements on the red record labels is slightly different. The first third release variant comes from boxes #2 and #3, the second third release variant comes from box #4. The record of the second third release variant has matrix numbers: Side 1 - 86313-A-0, Side 2 - 86313-B0.
*The distinction between “myth” and “legend” made in English isn’t made in other European languages – they’re both types of traditional stories, but basically a “myth” is a story that was never actually true, whereas a “legend” is a story that is based on true events or people. This means an “urban legend” should actually be called an “urban myth”, while Bob’s certainly a legend and definitely not a myth!

release has a short insert. The cassette is black with white CBS
labels. The 1986 "Mitos Musicales" set was also released on two cassettes. Unlike the LP version above, this tape release was sold separately and for this reason the copy shown has no box or book. |

Each tape has a different image on the insert with the logo of "Los Mitos Musicales" on the spine and individual catalogue numbers: "44461/1" for Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits with UK tracklist and 2:06 edit of Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 and "44461/2" for Empire Burlesque. The insert does not have the expected Empire Burlesque title or artwork. The 1986 cassette has the "40-86313" catalogue number and is light grey with black text printed directly on to it, there are no paper labels.

This album was made in Greece for Diski CBS AEBE as shown on the rear sleeve. The front sleeve of Gerd Rundel's copy has a front CBS sticker with "Hit Wave 85". There is a double-sided 12" lyrics insert instead of an inner sleeve. the copyright information at the bottom of the rear sleeve looks like the UK information with part of it obscured. The orange/yellow CBS record labels have "MADE IN GREECE" in English on the circumference as well as in Greek. The record of Gerd's copy has handwritten matrix numbers: Side 1 - 01-86313 A, Side 2 - 01-86313 B. |

Lars M. Banke has a copy in the same sleeve, but without the sticker on the front. The record labels are the same except for the playing speed to the left of the centre hole. On Gerd's copy the speed is "33 1/3 RPM" (in two different typefaces) and on Lars' copy the speed is just "33 / RPM" in a third typeface (same as that of "STEREO").

Infidels
in 1983 to
Dylan & The Dead
in 1989. Before that album in the Philippines from 1970 to 1981 were made by

albums, the
front sleeve has the names of three featured songs, here in red at top left.

This album was made by Jigu
Records Corporation of Korea for CBS. The copy shown is from 1991. It has
the standard front sleeve, while the rear sleeve has some text in South Korean.
the record is housed in a generic plastic CBS-Jigu inner sleeve and there is
a four-page monochrome insert with lyrics in English and Korean text. Pages
2 and 3 are the usual inner sleeve. The pictures of pages 1 and 4 are
anachronous as they belong to the Street-Legal
sessions. The picture on page 4 is similar to the cover of the 1978 Dutch
single of Baby Stop Crying (see
International 7" & 12"
Singles & EPs 1978): Bob wears the same clothes in both pictures. The record has dark red CBS labels with logos in a ring and a government approval date of "85.8.19" (19 Aug 1985). There are two spelling mistakes - Never Gonna Be The Same Again is given as "Never Ognna Be The Same Again" and Trust Yourself is given as "Trust Yoursele"! The Australian and New Zealand releases have a picture inner sleeve like the US album above and orange/yellow CBS labels. The Australian front sleeve originally had a red/black sticker promoting the album. This was replaced by a red/white sticker, presumably to make the information clearer. Dag Braathen has a promo copy with a red/silver sticker on the front sleeve and white promo record labels. The New Zealand release looks as if it uses the same outer and inner sleeves as the Australian release, but the record itself was made in New Zealand. The South African sleeve was printed in South Africa by Artone Press. The South African record has orange/yellow CBS labels. The Zimbabwean sleeve was printed in Zimbabwe by Belmont Printers of Bulawayo, with code "4A". Belmont Printers used codes starting with "4" for sleeves they printed for CBS Records, they used other codes for other record companies. The Zimbabwean record also has orange/yellow CBS labels, but with a different text layout. Side 1 is significantly darker than Side 2. There is a mistake on Side 1 - Never Gonna Be The Same Again is misprinted as "Never Gonna Be The Some Again"! The Zimbabwean record shown has matrix numbers: Side 1 - DNW-3076A, Side 2 - DNW-3076B.

The front sleeve of the first promo release has a large slanted overprint with the words "DISCO PARA DEMOSTRACIÓN/VENTA PROHIBIDA" [DEMONSTRATION RECORD/NOT FOR SALE]" at top left. The same text in Spanish is also on the orange Discos CBS record labels. The rear sleeve is in monochrome with all text in Spanish with the song titles in Spanish and English with different translations from the Mexican release above. On the rear sleeve the copyright and publishing date is wrongly shown as "1085" instead of "1985". The record labels have the song titles in Spanish and English also. Tight Connection To My Heart is translated as “CONECCIÓN DIRECTA A MI CORAZÓN”; on the rear sleeve, but "CONEXIÓN DIRECTA..." on the Side 1 record label. Both Sergio Mariano Romay and Manuel García Jara say the Side 1 label is correct. |

Sergio Mariano Romay has a second promo copy in the commercial sleeve but with a promo sticker on the rear. The record labels have the same text "DISCO PARA DEMOSTRACIÓN/VENTA PROHIBIDA" [DEMONSTRATION RECORD/NOT FOR SALE]" as on Paul Prince's copy.

Sergio Mariano Romay has another copy, believed to be one of a batch, where the wrong side numbers were printed on the labels. The label numbered "Side 2" actually had the Side 1 "AL 40110" reference, the Side 1 song titles and played the Side 1 songs, and vice-versa. These have been corrected by overprinting a silver rectangle with the correct side number! |

This CBS Argentina cassette release has a folded insert, blank on the inside. The black cassette case has "Sony Music" on the back. The cassette is white with orange text, there are no paper labels. The song titles are in Spanish and English on the cassette insert and in Spanish only on the cassette. Unlike on the Argentinean vinyl releases above, Tight Connection To My Heart is translated correctly as “CONEXIÓN DIRECTA A MI CORAZÓN”; on both the insert and the Side 1 cassette.

The rear sleeve has a white panel at top right with the CBS logo, the Stereo/arrows logo, unusual for a record of 1985 plus another white panel at bottom left with copyright text in Spanish and "Made In Colombia". The promo copy shown has a promotional sticker with the text "Para uso exclusivo de emisoras y periodistas. Prohibida su venta. Discos CBS, S.A., se reserva el derecho de propiedad de este disco. The record has orange/yellow CBS labels with song titles in English only. Side 2 of the promo copy has a promo stamp with "DISCO PROMOCIONAL PROHIBIDA SU VENTA [PROMOTIONAL RECORD SALE FORBIDDEN]". The matrix numbers of Manuel's promo copy are : Side 1 - COL 14-1824 A IX-12-85 (Most likely the mastering date, Sep 12,1985), Side 2 - COL 14-1824 B IX-21-85 (Sep 21, 1985, perhaps a mistake, "21" instead of "12").

The 1985 release has a purple/white card box-type obi with black and white text and price ¥3,200 (before sales tax was introduced). It had a 28-page stapled booklet in English and Japanese. The rear insert has two dates: "I-11-21" (21 Nov 1985) and the withdrawal date "86-3-31" (31 Mar 1986). 32DP 244 was reissued in 1989 with the same purple/white card box-type obi with price ¥3,008 (¥2,920 plus sales tax) (not shown).
Wil Gielen also has a 1989 copy that was given as a prize in a competition run by TDK, the text in the centre of the CD says "TDK CD double chance present - not for sale". The CD was won by sending in vouchers collected from TDK products (mainly compact cassettes and VHS tapes).

(¥1,748 plus sales tax) and withdrawal date "95-9-21" (21 Sep 1995). Wil Gielen's copy is a promo, with a sticker on the rear insert and Japanese promo characters in the centre of the CD itself. Sonny Boy McFitzson points out that there is a printing error in the lyrics of When The Night Comes Falling From The Sky in the front insert, although the lyrics in the Japanese language insert are not affected. |

The 1991 release of Columbia COL 467840 2 has a red CD tray. There is a "Nice Price" catalogue stapled inside the front insert booklet. My copy has a no "Nice Price" catalogue and also has a black CD tray. The CBS CD is silver with black text, the Columbia CDs are silver with red panels and black text.

The 1990s release was on sale in Australia until
2018, when it was replaced by the "Gold Series" release. The rear insert says "Made
in Japan" although the CD itself says "Made in Australia". The "Gold Series" CD was released in 2018 with a new catalogue number. The bar code is now different. The new bar code number "19075866952" is on the spine in place of "CDCBS 86313". The artwork is the same as the 1990s copy with the rear insert still saying "Made in Japan" while the CD itself says "Made in Australia" The disc is now gold instead of silver, while the label side is a darker red. It is one of 12 Dylan releases in the Australian "Gold Series". |

This release comes as part of a 3CD set Original Album Classics: Bob Dylan containing three not as yet remastered albums: Empire Burlesque (1985), Down In The Groove (1988) and Under The Red Sky (1990). As the price per set is only £8.99 it's very unlikely these have been remastered now. Other artists in this series include Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus, Patti Smith and Jeff Buckley. The three albums are in card sleeves inside a CD-width slipcase. The individual albums are numbered 88697742502CD1, 88697742502CD2 and 88697742502CD3.
The picture on the front of the slipcase comes from 1986's Hard To Handle video of Bob live with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, see VHS & DVDs 1980s.

This massive set is the latest in a series of "Complete Columbia Album Collections" featuring artists such as Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and even Blue Oyster Cult. The CD version of the set includes 41 Dylan albums in card sleeves, 14 of which have been remastered for this project, plus a 2CD set of previously released non-album tracks entitled Side Tracks. The albums exclude all compilations and The Bootleg Series sets, but do include the deleted 1973 Dylan album, also see 1973, and the extra 2CD set Side Tracks includes one side of the 1971 single George Jackson (Acoustic version), R-0085, see 1971. The set is therefore listed in 2013. The set also includes a hard cover book with extensive new liner notes and previously unseen photos.
All the CDs come in card sleeves. The European sleeves are made of thicker card than the US sleeves, but they are otherwise identical, so are not shown. The catalogue number on the sleeve is "88691924312JK27" plus "DISC 31". This album has been remastered, so is the ninth Dylan album remastered for this project. The CDs are different in detail, the US Empire Burlesque CD has catalogue number "88691924312D31", whereas the European CD has catalogue number "88691924312-31". The European CD was made in the EU (probably Austria). The US and European copyright details are printed at the bottom of the Bob Dylan CDs, and round the circumference for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan onwards, so I haven't shown them for the later CDs.

Thanks to Sonny Boy McFitzson and Éamonn Ó Catháin for news that The Complete Album Collection will be released in Japan in four decade-related parts, with the intention to release them all in 2014. The Blu-Spec CD2 specification CDs come in card sleeves with printed inner sleeves and "SONY MUSIC" instead of "COLUMBIA" on the discs. Bob's 1980s albums from Saved to Oh Mercy will be released in Japan on 27 Aug 2014 in card sleeves as Blu-Spec CD2 discs numbered Sony Music SICP 30571 to SICP 30579. The 2013 remastered Empire Burlesque is SICP 30575, more details will be added when available. |
