This page is part of a list of original releases by release
date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums.
They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the
Searching For A Gem
list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing
here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo
releases of regular albums are now listed here and no longer in the former
yearly Promo sections.
For releases of this
album in CBS/Columbia multi-packs, see International
Album Releases (Regular) - Multi-Packs.

Original CD and MiniDisc Releases (US & International)
"Blood On The Tracks" - CD release: CBS/Sony
30DP 306 (Japan),
1 Apr 1985, re-released 1989;
CD "Nice Price" reissue,
Sony Records SRCS 6167 (Japan), 1991:
CBS/Sony
30DP 306 (Japan) - front with obi, scan by Hans Seegers (1985 release) |
CBS/Sony 30DP 306 was one of the first Bob Dylan CDs released in Japan. The
CD had a
yellow, black,
red and white shaped card obi with a top flap and a price of
¥3,000 (indicated by the "30" in the catalogue number - there was no sales
tax in 1985). The album was released in 1989 after the introduction of
sales tax with a new obi price of
¥2,812 (¥2,730 before sales tax). The rear insert showed the first David
Oppenheim picture (see above) plus a tracklisting. There was a 32 page
booklet. The CD was silver with black text.
The
later mid-priced CD has a
black,
red, white, blue and yellow paper obi with the
price
¥1,800.
The rear insert shows the second picture by David Oppenheim (see above)
with the tracklisting superimposed. There was a 24 page booklet. The CD itself is green with silver
writing. It is actually a promo, but the only indication are small
Japanese characters indicating a promo
in the clear centre of the CD (not visible on the scan).
Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.

"Blood On The Tracks" - CD release,
Columbia CK 33235 (USA),
mid 1980s:
Columbia CK 33235 (USA) - front of
"long box", scan by Hans Seegers |
The first CD release of the album in the USA came in the "long box"
shown. Although it says "Now Made In The U.S.A." on the rear, the disc was
made in Japan. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans. |

"Blood On The Tracks" - CD release,
Columbia CK 33235 (USA),
1990s:
Columbia CK 33235 (USA) - front with "Best Value" sticker,
scan by Moise Potié |
This CD release, bought by me on a visit to the USA, is an attempt to
restore the original artwork and includes the Pete Hamill sleeve notes. The
front insert folds out into a square with the third US rear sleeve design
(see above, white text instead of black) on the reverse.
The rear insert repeats the first David Oppenheim picture (see above) plus a
tracklisting. The
background colours of the
front and rear inserts are noticeably different, with the front insert
colour being dark red and the rear insert colour much more maroon. Sergio
Mariano Romay has a copy bought in Argentina with a "SONY INTERNATIONAL" sticker
on the rear insert.
The disc itself
was manufactured in Japan.

Columbia VCK 33235 (Canada),
mid 1980s (two releases); Columbia CK 33235 (Canada), 1988:
Columbia VCK 33235 (Canada) - front scan by Jack from Canada (both releases) |
Columbia VCK 33235 was the first release of this album on CD in Canada.
Manuel
García Jara's copy has exactly the same inserts as Jack from Canada's, but the
CD now has "Made at SMC" (Sony Music Canada) below the Columbia logo to the left
of the centre hole. This is missing from Jack's CD,
which means it was probably imported from the USA or even Japan.
The
copy with catalogue number Columbia CK 33235 was bought in 1988. The CD doesn't
have "Made at SMC" but it does have the inverted triangle to the right of the
centre hole, introduced in the USA for LPs, cassettes and CDs with Biograph
in 1985.
Thanks to Jack from Canada, Moise Potié and
Manuel García Jara for information and
scans. |

These CD releases have a single folded card as the front

the front insert and on the rear insert, while the sleeve notes are missing.
CBS CDCBS 69097 was released twice, the first release had a CD made in Japan
and no barcode on the rear insert. The second release had a CD made in Austria

The first copy of Columbia 467842 2 shown has a red CD tray and a "Nice Price" front sticker with "Dylan Originals:
30 Years on Columbia", which dates it as 1991. The next two releases of
Columbia 467842 2 are from 1997 (as shown by the insert including The Best Of
Bob Dylan and Time Out Of Mind) and from about 2000. The 1997 release
has a clear CD tray and a detail of the front sleeve on the reverse of the
rear insert. The 2000 release has a black tray and the reverse of the rear
insert is blank. The numbers at bottom right of the rear inserts are different,
as shown in the pictures, but the CDs are the same.
Thanks to Marc Kuszel and Keith Schweiger for
information and pictures.
"Blood On The Tracks" - CD releases, CBS CDCBS 69097
(Australia), late 1980s; Columbia CDCBS 69097 (Australia),
1990s (two releases); gold CD release: Columbia
19075936032 (Australia), 17 May 2019:
These CD releases are the same as the European releases
above and have a single folded card as the front
insert. They use the second rear picture by David Oppenheim on the reverse of
the front insert and on the rear insert, while the sleeve notes are again missing.
The two Columbia CDs differ in the placement of the "MANUFACTURED IN
AUSTRALIA..." text. They have the same inserts as the CBS release.
The 2019 "Gold Series" release has a new catalogue
number, 19075936032. Again the old number is still on the CD and the inserts,
although the new Sony Music logo has now been added to the rear insert.
Thanks to Stuart Moore for information and scans.

Columbia MILLEN16 (UK) - rear of card sleeve, scan by David Burgess |
Columbia MILLEN16 (UK) - CD scan by Gerd
Rundel |
This CD came in a card sleeve reproducing the artwork of the
second US LP - see above. Presumably it was thought pointless to
reproduce the original rear sleeve with notes by Pete Hamill, since they
would be unreadable in this size. It has what appears to be the equivalent
of a Japanese obi, denoting it's a Millennium Edition (there were several
other CDs in this series including Blonde On Blonde and albums by other Columbia artists).
It's
just the standard commercial CD, not remastered even though Columbia was
known to have remastered the album before then.

There is an eight-page
booklet with the original sleeve notes and two unpublished pictures of Bob
from 1974. The picture on the rear of the booklet is the one used for the
European/Australian release The Best Of Bob Dylan Vol. 2 and the
exclusive Swedish release The Very Best Of Bob Dylan - for both see
2000, as well as the 2CD set The Best Of
Bob Dylan Volumes 1 & 2, see 2001. The picture used on the rear insert of 1997's
Time Out Of Mind also appears to be from this session. The SA-CD design reproduces the Columbia US
stereo vinyl label used in 1974.
The booklet for the Canadian release has been
printed in Canada. My copy
also has the sticker shown for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan on the
outside of the shrink-wrap.

"Blood On The Tracks" - CD release with "TV Sorrisi
e Canzoni [TV Smiles And Songs]" magazine #22, Columbia (no catalogue number) (Italy), 29 May
- 4 Jun 2004:
Sealed magazine front with CD, scan by Manfred Endtner |
This magazine was on sale in the week before 29 May 2004. A previous issue of this magazine in
April/May 2003 had a copy of
Desire. This is a "left over" standard CD release of this album, not
the Mar 2004 remastered CD layer from the hybrid SA-CD release.
The second picture by David Oppenheim (see above) is
repeated on both the rear insert, and the inside of the front insert.
Thanks to Manfred Endtner for information and scans and to Hans Seegers
for further information. |

"Blood On The Tracks" - remastered CD release in "The Vinyl
Classics" series,
Columbia 512350 5 (Europe)/Columbia 5123505000 (Australia), 2005:
This CD is a reissue of Columbia 512350 2 from 2004 above,
packaged in a "Vinyl Classics" slipcase. The CD itself is new, with a design
showing the 1990s Columbia LP, with an unusual black playing surface as
well. The front insert, an eight-page stapled booklet, is placed inside
the slipcase at the back of the jewel case so the design of the CD shows
through the cut-out in the insert. The catalogue number on the spine is Columbia
512350 2. In this release the first picture by David Oppenheim (see
above) is repeated on both sides of the rear insert.
Thanks to Stuart
Moore for scans of the Australian release. Thanks to Ian Woodward for
finding a picture of a release with a rearranged front design.

Columbia/Sony BMG 512350 2 (Argentina) - front scan by Sergio Mariano Romay |
This CD is a reissue of Columbia 512350
2 from 2004 above, included in a Rolling Stones magazine special issue "Coleccion
50 Años de Rock III CD No.4". The magazine has
13 pages of Bob in an article called "Canciones de Sangre Caliente [Songs of
Hot Blood]" with photographs of Bob and opinions about the album by
Argentinean journalists. The magazine and CD come in a special clear pack to
be hung on a display rack in a store. The CD and inserts were made in
Argentina by Sony BMG. The CD is dated 2004, so it may have been on sale in
Argentina separately the year before. Thanks
to Hervé from France and Sergio Mariano Romay for information and pictures. |

"Blood On The Tracks" - CD release,
Columbia/Sony Music 88697 70339 2/5 (NL), 22 Apr 2010:
"The Complete Album Collection Vol.
One" - 47CD boxed
set, Columbia/Legacy/Sony Music 88691-92431-2 (USA), 5 Nov 2013/(Europe),
4 Nov 2013; USB stick,
Columbia/Legacy/Sony Music 88883-77314-5 (USA), 5 Nov 2013/(Europe),
4 Nov 2013; Sony Music SICP 30471-30520
(Japan), 26 Mar 2014 onwards:
This massive set is the latest in a series of "Complete Columbia Album
Collections" featuring artists such as Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus, Duke
Ellington, Dave Brubeck and even Blue Oyster Cult. The CD version of the set includes 41 Dylan albums in card
sleeves, 14 of which have been remastered for this project, plus a 2CD set
of previously released non-album tracks entitled
Side Tracks. The albums exclude all compilations and
The Bootleg Series sets, but do include the deleted 1973 Dylan album,
also see 1973, and the extra 2CD set
Side Tracks includes one side of the 1971 single George
Jackson (Acoustic version),
R-0085, see
1971. The set is
therefore listed in 2013.
The set also includes a hard cover book with extensive new liner notes and
previously unseen photos.
All the CDs come in card sleeves.
Sadly, the rear sleeve of Blood On The Tracks is the second US design
with the larger David Oppenheim painting, not the original rear with Pete
Hamill's sleeve notes. The European sleeves are made of thicker
card than the US sleeves, but they are otherwise identical, so are not shown.
The catalogue number on the sleeve is "88691924312JK16"
plus "DISC 18" (because Blonde On Blonde and Before The
Flood had two CDs each). The CDs are different in detail, the US
Blood On The Tracks CD has
catalogue number "88691924312D18", whereas
the European CD has catalogue number "88691924312-18". The
European CD was made in the EU (probably Austria).
The US and European copyright details are printed at the bottom of the Bob Dylan CDs,
and round the circumference for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan onwards, so I
haven't shown them for the later CDs.
For more
details of the set, see
International Album Releases (Multi-Packs) 2010s.
Thanks to Manuel García Jara for information and
scans.

will be released in Japan in four decade-related parts, with
the intention to release them all in 2014.
The Blu-Spec CD2

MUSIC" instead of "COLUMBIA" on the discs.
Bob's 1970s albums from
Self Portrait to Slow Train Coming will be released in Japan
on 23 Apr 2014 in card sleeves as Blu-Spec CD2 discs
numbered Sony Music SICP 30482 to SICP
30500.
The 2014 remastered
Blood On The Tracks
will be SICP 30492, presumably identical musically to the Japanese 2013 Blu-spec CD2
release Sony Music SICP 30029 above. |

This release comes as a Mini LP and a
replica of the original US vinyl release. It comes in a card sleeve identical to
that of the first US release. There is a maroon obi with white and black text.
The CD itself, apart from the ring of Sony Music logos instead of a ring of
Columbia logos, reproduces exactly Side 1 of the US record with the US catalogue
number (PC 33235), matrix number (AL 33235) and the same typeface for the
tracklist. For this reason, the Side 2 song titles are not printed on the CD.
Thanks to Manuel García Jara for information and
scans.
