Thanks to Derek Barker, Harold Lepidus and Philip Jump for news of a second instalment of the 50th Anniversary Collection to be released on 2 Dec 2013. The 2012 release was a very limited 4CD-R set covering unreleased studio and live performances from 1962, this 2013 release is a 6LP stereo/mono vinyl boxed set covering unreleased studio and live performances from 1963. The set will be on sale from independent retailers only in the UK, France, Germany and Scandinavia. The tracklisting is pasted on the rear of the box. The individual LPs come in inner sleeves numbered 88883799701JK1 to 88883799701JK6 on the rear of the sleeves at bottom right. The full rear sleeve is shown for LP1 only. The record sides are numbered "A" to "L".

The version on The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3, 1991, was recorded at Columbia Studios, New York, 24 Oct 1963 (take 1).

Ronald Born says "The version of Percy's Song is a different version to the one from Biograph. It's 30 seconds shorter, has slightly different lyrics, harp solos only before and after the last verse, and some mixed up verses in the middle (verses 1-7, 10, 9, 8, 11-16)." The Biograph notes, Michael Krogsgaard and Glen Dundas list this take as the version on Biograph, 1985, but if this is right, it cannot be! The only other complete take was recorded at Columbia Studios, New York, 24 Oct 1963 (take 3, 7:43), so that must be the Biograph version. Thanks to Bob Stacy for reminding me that this was the conclusion of Clinton Heylin, who thought that the Biograph version is much more polished than the alternate take, and must date from the second day. This information has been added to the Biograph page.

This out-take from The Times They Are A-Changin' with Bob on piano, one of two complete takes (takes 1 and 3) recorded at Columbia Studios, New York, on 12 Aug 1963 (not the Witmark demo, now released on The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 - The Witmark Demos 1962-1964, 2010, or The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan out-takes recorded Columbia Studios, New York, 6 Dec 1962 (takes 1, 2 and 4), released on the Sony Music Europe 4CD set The 50th Anniversary Collection, Dec 2012, all of which have Bob on guitar). R-0390 was included on early 12" acetates of the album in late 1963/early 1964 (see 1964), and also surfaced in 1980 as The Gal I Love on unreleased Columbia acetates (see 1980) and again as Hero Blues in 2007.

Complete takes of this song were recorded at Columbia Studios, New York, on 6 Aug 1963 (CO78976, take 1), 7 Aug 1963 (CO78976, take 3) and 24 Oct 1963 (CO79693, takes 1 and 2). A version recorded in Aug or Oct 1963, appeared on US MPH acetates that surfaced in 2004, and is listed there as R-0693. this is now confirmed to be the definitely October performance here. An incomplete take (1:05) also circulates amongst collectors.

The twenty performances above make up the rest of the 24 song concert. It would be nice to have it on one release as a continuous show!

Thanks to Larry Crum for pointing out that on We Shall Overcome R-0024 is in two parts, separated by a speech, and talked-over, this 2013 version is complete. I have not allocated a new R-number because I do not know the format of the song on the 1964 acetate and radio station discs.

Thanks to Fred Muller for reminding me that Bob introduces Percy’s Song mentioning Paul Clayton’s source The Wind and The Rain. This spoken intro has been edited out of this performance, although it does appear at the start of R-0374, the version of this song, incorrectly titled as "Turn Turn Turn", from the cancelled live album Bob Dylan In Concert (see 1964), which also appeared on the "Goldmine" acetates (see 1980), and on bobdylan.com (BDC13, see Online Performances). There is yet another version, R-0795, again incorrectly titled as "Turn Turn Turn", from the second version of the cancelled Columbia album Bob Dylan In Concert (again see 1964). This edit has no intro as on R-0374, but has lots of audience coughing that is not on the first edit, and not on R-1084.

This edit has a slightly longer intro than on the first version of Bob Dylan In Concert (R-0376) and ends with applause (the other edit stops abruptly), so this R-number is best here.

Thanks to Bob Stacy for the information that all nine of the Carnegie Hall tracks here have been remixed by Michael Brauer, probably in 2005 before the release of the six song CD Bob Dylan Live At Carnegie Hall 1963.

Who Killed Davey Moore? (song 3) and Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues (song 5) from this show appeared on The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3, 1991. A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall (song 12) and When The Ship Comes In (song 19) appeared on The Bootleg Series Vol. 7 - No Direction Home: The Soundtrack, 2005. The six more performances listed below appeared on Bob Dylan Live At Carnegie Hall 1963, a CD given away in 2005 with purchases of The Bootleg Series Vol. 7 - No Direction Home: The Soundtrack, etc., in 2005. The nine performances above make up the rest of the nineteen song concert. It would again be nice to have it on one release as a continuous show, including all Bob's between song commentary!
