There was an earlier release, CBS/Sony 35DP 99, from 1983, issued at the same time as the original Japanese CD release of Infidels, CBS/Sony 35DP 93. Scans of this release, which cost ¥3,500, required!

This release occurs with two obis, both dark green and white with white and black text in the "CBS Rock CD 100 Folk Rock Series" . The first obi has a downward yellow and pink triangle on the front fold with price ¥2,800 (the "28" in the catalogue number meant the price was ¥2,800). The second obi has a reduced price of ¥2,627 (¥2,550 plus sales tax). The promo version shown came with the second obi and was packaged by CBS/Sony for TDK. This was given as a prize in a competition run by TDK, the text in the centre of the CD says "TDK CD double chance present - not for sale". The CD was won by sending in vouchers collected from TDK products (mainly compact cassettes and VHS tapes).

The front sticker, different from the ones on the 2004 Japanese releases in card sleeves, advertises the free six-track CD Bob Dylan Live At Carnegie Hall 1963 (see 2005). In Japan this can only be obtained in exchange for five tokens, one from each of the following newly-released albums:

This is the BMG Direct release, from the company that owned the BMG Service Music Club, based in Indianapolis, IN. Again unusually for the USA this release is from CBS and not Columbia. Like the US releases above, the CD was manufactured in Japan even though it says "Now Made In The USA" on the rear insert. It has two stickers on the rear insert and on the booklet with a new barcode and catalogue number covering the original barcodes. This new catalogue number (D110966) is also on the CD to the right of the centre hole. The CD also has the inverted triangle used on Side 1 of LPs and cassettes from Biograph in 1985.

The slipcase is from Sony BMG Music Entertainment, 2005, although the album is on Columbia as above.

Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for news of a remastered Limited Numbered Edition 24 carat gold CD release of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits from Steve Hoffman for Audio Fidelity. The run was limited to 5,000 numbered copies, of which mine is #1729. For more information, see . Each track has been individually remastered to reflect the different sound characteristics of the original stereo albums from which the tracks were selected. The version of Positively 4th Street is timed at 4:12 and is a former rarity (R-0049, see Released Rarities).

The CD comes in a standard jewel case in a slipcase. The front of the slipcase is cut away to show the gold CD. There is a front insert which is an eight page stapled booklet, reproducing the original Columbia US stereo record labels and the original Milton Glaser poster.

This limited edition hybrid SA-CD stereo release of this album is the first time it has been remastered in audiophile quality. It is therefore also listed in 2015.

Manuel García Jara's copy has inserts with Columbia VCK-9463, but the CD is CBS CK 9463, with the text "MADE AT SMC" (Sony Music Canada) to the right of the centre hole.

Jack from Canada's 1989 release also has inserts with Columbia VCK-9463, but the CD is now CBS CCK 9463. Paul Shenton's CCK 9463 copy has all the text at lower left missing from the outside of the front insert, and the text on the inside of the front insert is on the right instead of the left as above. Paul's rear insert is the same as that of Jack's Columbia House copy shown below.

These releases also have the UK Greatest Hits sleeve (see here), but the US tracklist and rear sleeve.

They were manufactured and distributed for Columbia in South Africa by the Gallo Record Company. The 1991 CD release was reissued in 1994 with an orange card slipcase with catalogue number "Columbia CDANIC 40051 H", but the inserts and CD inside with catalogue number "Columbia CDANIC 40051" look identical to those of the 1991 album.

The CD comes in a 48 page book (in French by Jean-William Thoury) containing several interesting photographs. It's intriguing because like other European Greatest Hits above on this page it has the UK front sleeve but the shorter US track listing.
