Thanks to Rich Wong for scans of the Aug 1987 release of CGK 841. It has a single folded card as the front insert. The CD has the Columbia "Walking Eye" logo to the left of the centre hole and the inverted triangle to the right of the centre hole introduced for LPs, cassettes and CDs with Biograph in 1985. It has a catalogue number of "CK 9316" to the right of the centre hole. "CS 9316" was the catalogue number of Record 1 of the US stereo 2LP set, Record 2 was "CS 9317". I don’t have details of any other Blonde On Blonde CD with this number. This disc was made in Japan.

Wil Gielen has a mid 1990s copy of the US release CGK 841 imported into Japan with an obi from the Tsutaya Records rental store chain. The obi has no price because the CD was only for rental. Perversely, it uses the politically correct spelling of "Blond On Blond"!

This release, in SA-CD stereo only (not 5.1 surround sound as the 2003 2-disc hybrid SA-CD release below), contains superior versions of the album tracks, remixed by Michael Brauer.

This edition of the album, which was initially only available to those who had the equipment to play SA-CDs, was at the time the most satisfactory stereo version so far released, even better than the Mastersound gold CD version. Before this all CD versions were thought inferior to the original mono LP mix. For the 2003 hybrid SA-CD release with standard stereo, SA-CD stereo and SA-CD 5.1 surround sound, see below.

Both MiniDiscs are still sealed, so I have no information about which version of the album it might be.

This was the "regular" CD release of Blonde On Blonde until 2004. The first CBS release disc has the original European LP catalogue number 66012 and was made in Japan for CBS Europe, the CDs for subsequent CBS and Columbia releases were made in Austria. This CD has a total length of 74 mins, unlike the edited UK release which totals 72 mins (see 1966 Blonde On Blonde Rarities).

This late 1980s release has a new catalogue number, but is still on the CBS label. Éamonn Ó Catháin points out that the tracklisting in the booklet of his copy misprints Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 as "Rainy Day Women #12 & 36"! It's correct on the rear insert and the CD.

The early 1990s release has the same catalogue number as the last CBS release, but is now on the Columbia label. The first copy shown has a red CD tray and a 1991 "DYLAN ORIGINALS" front sticker.

I have a copy of this release bought in 2000 that has a "CLASSIC BOB DYLAN" insert showing the two The Best Of Bob Dylan compilations released in Europe (in 1997 and 2000) and other Dylan albums.

Columbia Europe 2000 insert back

This is a reissue of the US and Japanese 1992 gold disc releases shown above. The jewel case containing this CD is in a white card slipcase with a shaped hole cut in the front that shows the gold CD itself. There's a similar hole in the rear insert. The jewel case front insert unfolds to show the second US gatefold inner sleeve design - left-hand side on the reverse, right-hand side on the front. All the colour pictures have the colour balance shifted towards yellow - this is from the original, not a fault of the scanner.

This CD came in a folded card sleeve reproducing the original LP artwork. What is extremely interesting is that the inside sleeve has the original UK artwork with the picture of Claudia Cardinale, now replaced in the USA - see The Blonde On Blonde Missing Pictures. It also has what appears to be the equivalent of a Japanese obi, denoting it's a Millennium Edition (there were several other CDs in this series including Blood On The Tracks and albums by other Columbia artists). Reports are that the CD itself is the same as the 1998 gold CD, even though it's silver. Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for information that this release does not have CD-TEXT.

Even though this is a silver CD, it is the same mix as the former UK gold CD (see above). Note the inside of the digipak has the original right hand picture layout with Claudia Cardinale, this time on the left.

There is an 8-page booklet with more unpublished pictures of Bob from 1966 from the same Jerry Schatzberg shoot as the original album photos. The digipak when first opened (before you unfold it again to reveal the CD trays) reproduces the revised US gatefold sleeve inner layout - see The Blonde On Blonde Missing Pictures. The picture of Claudia Cardinale is sadly missing yet again!

The SA-CD design reproduces the Columbia US "360º SOUND" stereo vinyl label used in 1966. The CD and SA-CD stereo layers both feature superior versions of the album tracks, remixed by Michael Brauer as per the 1997 US and Japanese SA-CD-only release.

My North American copy illustrated was distributed from Canada, and has the same sticker on the outside of the shrink-wrap as the one illustrated for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.

In 2016 there was a simultaneous release on hybrid SA-CD and vinyl of seven Dylan mono albums excluding Blonde On Blonde. Because Highway 16 Revisited is "2182" and John Wesley Harding is "2183", it would appear there was never any intention to release a mono hybrid SA-CD release of Blonde On Blonde.

This 2013 release is one of five Dylan albums in the new "Blu-spec CD2" format, replacing the Blu-spec release from 2008 above. The CD has a blue/white obi with price ¥1,890 (¥1,800 plus sales tax). The release date is 6 Mar 2013 and the withdrawal date is 5 Sep 2013.

Translation of Japanese text front sticker by Ben Backhurst from Tokyo Music Japan: "To celebrate the anniversary of Legacy Recordings there will be a prize draw. 3 people will receive high performance Sony headphones. 300 people will receive an exclusive mug.
