Desire Tape Releases
This page is part of a list of original releases by release date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums. They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo releases of regular albums are now listed here and no longer in the former yearly Promo sections. Because of the very large number of Desire releases, this page now contains all the tape (8-track and cassette) releases of the album. Desire CD releases are now here. To return to the main Desire page press "Up" or the back button in your browser. For releases of this album in CBS/Columbia multi-packs, see International Album Releases (Regular) - Multi-Packs. |

If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

Stereo 8-Track Tape Releases
So far 8-track stereo releases have only been received from the USA, Canada, the UK, Italy, Spain and Australia. However, the Portuguese cassette release below lists an 8-track release on the insert.
"Desire" - 8-track stereo cartridge release, Columbia PCA 33893 (USA), Jan 1976:
Columbia PCA 33893 (USA) - front of slipcase, scan by Manuel García Jara |
This rare release has a changed playing order with Joey split over two programmes of the cartridge. Because this is a rarity, this release is also listed in 1976. The Columbia Canada and CBS UK 8-track stereo releases below have the same split, although the Italian 8-track stereo release below has a different split. This US release comes in a black slipcase and has a dark grey tape cartridge with two paper labels. |

This rare release in a black slipcase with text in English and French again has a changed playing order with Joey split over two programmes of the cartridge. Because this is a rarity, this release is also listed in 1976. The Columbia US and the CBS UK 8-track stereo releases above and below have the same split, although the Italian 8-track stereo release below has a different split. The tape cartridge is orange with a white label. The reverse of the tape cartridge is blank. |

CBS 42-86003 (UK) - front of slipcase, scan by Hans Seegers (first variant) |
This rare release again has a changed playing order with Joey split over two programmes of the cartridge. Because this is a rarity, this release is also listed in 1976. The Columbia US 8-track release listed above has the same split, although the Italian 8-track stereo release below has a different split. Hans Seegers' copy has a black tape cartridge inside a black card slipcase. The cartridge has a single fold-over paper label. Manuel García Jara's copy has a white plastic cartridge with the same single fold-over paper label and no card slipcase. |

"Desire" - 8-track stereo cartridge release, CBS 42-86003 (Spain), Jan 1976:
The cartridge was made for CBS Spain by an unusual company, BOCSA, and the labels were printed by Gráficas Dauco (the usual printing company for CBS tapes). It must have been released in early 1976 because the CBS address is still Calle Princesa, 1. This was when the first Spanish copies of the album came to the stores without the text "Nº 1 en USA" printed on the front (like the front of this cartridge). The album title has been translated as Deseo on the cartridge end. The song titles are in Spanish and in English. Romance In Durango is split between Program 3 and Program 4. Because this is a rarity, this entry is also listed in 1976.
Tracklisting:
Program 1: á Hurricane]; Sara
Program 2: Isis; Mozambique; Oh, Hermana [Oh, Sister]
Program 3: Joey; Romance En Durango (Primera Parte) [Romance In Durango] (First Part)
Program 4: Romance En Durango (Segunda Parte) [Romance In Durango] (Second Part); Bahia Del Diamante Negro [Black Diamond Bay]; Una Taza Mas De Cafe [One More Cup Of Coffee].
Thanks to Manuel García Jara for information and scans.
"Desire" - 8-track stereo tape release, CBS TC 4778 (Australia), Jan 1976:
CBS TC 4778 (Australia) - top of tape cartridge, scan by Stuart Moore |
Tracklisting (same as US and other releases above):
Joey is split between Program 2 and Program 3. Because this is a rarity, this entry is also listed in 1976. |

The cassette is transparent grey with white text printed directly on to it, there are again no paper labels.

"Deseo [Desire]" - stereo compact cassette releases, CBS 40-86003 (Spain), 1976 (two releases), re-released 1982:
For the 1976 "Discolibro" vinyl release of Desire and the "Discolibro" catalogue for Summer 1976 with Desire featured on the cover and inside, see here. The cassette insert has the "Discolibro" logo twice as shown but this logo is not on the cassette itself which is similar to that of the first Spanish cassette release with orange CBS paper labels. The reverse of the insert lists other CBS cassette releases. The insert was printed by Graficas Dauco, Madrid. The regular 1976 release has the same inside insert and cassette except that Side 2 of the regular cassette has four screws, and can be opened, while the "Discolibro" cassette is sealed. The album and song titles are in Spanish and English on the insert and printed in Spanish only on the cassette labels.
The 1982 commercial cassette has minimal artwork with just track titles and timings, the reverse of the insert is blank. The cassette is of white plastic with orange text printed directly on to it, there are no paper labels.
