Bette Midler - "Songs For The New Depression" - vinyl LP release: Atlantic SD 18155 (USA), 8 Jan 1976 (four variants):
R-0123 also appeared on a 1976 WEA Germany Various Artists promo compilation Schrittmacher 1976/II (see below), the 1978 Atlantic US/UK LP The Best of Bette (see 1978), an associated UK single (also see 1978), on the Débutante DeLuxe UK Various Artists compilation And The Times They Were A-Changin’ (see 1998) and on the Columbia Australia Various Artists compilation Doin' Dylan 2 (see 2002).
Ronald Born has a promo copy of the US release of Atlantic SD 18155 with the sticker shown on the front sleeve. It does not have any other indication that it's a promo. The US LP has the same picture inner sleeve with details of the tracks as other worldwide releases - scans required!
The record has different Atlantic label variants depending upon the pressing plant used; each pressing plant added a code to the matrix numbers printed at the bottom of the labels. The variants shown here are:
"PR" - Presswell Company, Ancora, NJ.
"GR" - MCA Pressing Plant, Gloversville, NY (on separate line)
"MO" - Monarch Records, Los Angeles, CA
"SP" - Specialty Record Corp., Olyphant, NJ
There may also be an "RI" variant from PRC Recording Industry Products, Richmond, IN - scans required.
Bob Dylan and The Band performing On A Night Like This from Planet Waves (then on Asylum, part of the same group as Atlantic) appeared on a 1974 Japanese promo 7" with In The Mood from Bette Midler on the other side (see US & International 7" Stereo Singles & EPs 1974). Bette Midler also appears as part of the ensemble USA For Africa on the charity single We Are The World, see 1985.

The French release comes in the same sleeve and picture inner sleeve as the other worldwide releases. The record again has green/white/orange Atlantic labels.

New Zealand had its own release of this album. It has the same catalogue number as the Australian release but the rear sleeve and record labels are different. It has the same picture inner sleeve as other worldwide releases.

The Mexican album was released by Gamma Records on behalf of Atlantic Records. The record has orange Gamma labels with the album title in Spanish and song titles in Spanish and English. Buckets Of Rain is translated as "Cubetazos De Lluvia". I do not know if there was a picture inner sleeve. |

The record has the usual Spanish design of Atlantic labels: orange/white/pink instead of the green/white/orange design used in the rest of the world (see also Doug Sahm And Band, 1973), and has song titles in English and Spanish. Unlike on the 1976 Mexican release, Buckets Of Rain is incorrectly translated as "Cubos De Agua [Buckets Of Water]". The album title is not translated.

This West German promo LP includes Buckets Of Rain by Bette Midler from the German release ATL 50 212 on Side 2. Midler is misspelled "Middler" on the Side 2 record label, but is correct on the rear sleeve.

The 1990 Japanese CD release had a black and white obi with red, yellow and white text and price ¥2,348 (¥2,280 before tax). The release date is "90-7-25" (25 Jul 1990). There is an 8-page front insert in English with a second 8-page folded insert with the same information in Japanese. The 1998 Japanese CD release had a dark red and white obi in the "Bette Midler Remaster Collection" series with black, yellow and white text and price ¥1,785 (¥1,700 before tax). The release date is "98-10-15" (15 Oct 1998). The original release date is just shown as "76-1" (Jan 1976) and the withdrawal date is "00-10-14" (14 Oct 2000). There is an 8-page front insert in English and a double-sided folded insert in English and Japanese.
